Hello there! I am a young aspiring musician currently playing for my high school. I play in several different ensembles, including concert, jazz, marching, etc. I was hoping I could get some advice from the more experienced sax players out there on a question I had... What's a good mouthpiece that I could use that would work well in all around performances? I am currently using the one that came with my bari (Which is rented through the school, so not in good shape) and I am really looking for something better. While not particularly a problem because I've saved up a lot of money recently, I would prefer not to spend an insane amount on it. However if the investment is worth it, I'll be glad to put my money down for it. Thank you in advance.
I feel bad no one responded to your very first post..if you're still out there read the Bari mouthpiece threads, lots of good info. There are many good 'pieces, you don't need to spend a fortune. It will be best if you can figure out what tip size you are playing, then do more research so you get the proper tip opening size for your new mpc... Then you'll decide Metal or Rubber or Delrin. So many choices. Do your homework. Good Luck.
With the current very weak British pound it's a good value if you're US based. I don't think you'll get a better piece at the price, if you're looking in the $250-$300 range.
What is different about the Bari in a section setting is that you will be spending lot of time at the bottom of the range, so an agile low end response is very important. For someone fairly new to Bari, I think good response requires a piece whose facing is well executed, a no more than moderate baffle and a medium to large chamber. I also think the PPT would be a good choice and will take you along way before you'll need a change, if ever. As far as tip opening, usually the same facing number you use on Tenor is a good starting point (.1 larger actual tip opening). PPT's have a well done facing, are well designed and durable.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
