Similar thing happened to me. The ER doctor set it such that my left pinky has an exaggerated bend at the knuckle. At least you got some extra opinions. Ten years after the injury I was playing basketball with an orthopedic surgeon who noticed my finger. He said he could re-break it and set it again. I asked if that would straighten it out. His answer...probably not, it has been so long that arthritis in the joint is probably an issue.

Why he offered to re-break it if he didn't think it could be fixed???? I did not follow his advice, and to this day I play older tenor saxes that have the pinky keys all in a row because I cannot stretch down to the location of modern B flat keys.

Moral of the story? At least someone is looking to correct your problem before it becomes permanent. Just make sure to ask the surgeon what the chances are that your finger can return to normal. Hope you get a better answer than I did.

I doubt that it's uncommon. I had a broken toe that looked awful, all manner of purple and black bruises. My doctor at the time, who I actually respected, wouldn't even have it x-rayed because he said the treatment would not be different if it were broken. I eventually had it x-rayed and confirmed that it was broken, but not badly displaced, so it healed reasonably well without any real treatment, though the toe is now curled. I had mild soreness in the foot for 2-3 years before it finally subsided.

I think I might have broken my little toe after kicking the furniture as I was walking by. It's been a niggling minor to moderate soreness for 3 or so weeks but gradually getting better. I was thinking about going to the doctor but from what I read it's not treatable. About the only thing they might do is to splint it to the adjacent toe. Did they prescribe any treatment for your toe?
