    New re-release:

Daniel Deffayet "Les Classiques du Saxophone" from the 1978 LP on the King label. F. Yamada on piano.

Listed on Amazon.com as "Appeal of Saxophone". A search for "Deffayet" should yield the result.

    New release:

America's Millennium Tribute to Adolphe Sax Vol. VIII. This is the first of the new series being released this spring. Performances by George Wolfe, the Mosaic Saxo Quartet, and Joey Boyer. The premiere (I believe) recording of C. Scinto's "Earthshaker" can be found on this particular volume. Look for it this spring on http://www.aurec.com.

    Hey OANegrin --

How did you find this title? I tried searching both Amazon's and Tower's sites; all I came up with under "Deffayet" was the 3-disc EMI Le saxophone français set and a couple of different packagings of Delibes's Sylvia. When I searched under the title (at Amazon), it directed me to the Transcontinental Quartet's Mountain Roads CD (go figure). Got nothing under the title at Tower.

I used the most specific search parameters I could, i.e. the performer and title categories under the classical/opera search at Amazon, and the equivalent methods at Tower's site.

tried searching amazon.co.uk? i found that there are certain differences within the product database between country specific websites, especially for more obscure products or products more catered to the european market.

    KSQ,

All apologies -- I forgot a step. Search for "Deffayet", then click on the link "popular music (1)". This will yield the re-released Deffayet CD. Here's the link:

Anyone having trouble with this, please email me.

Thanks for the link, OANegrin; much appreciated.

Is that the old recording with the Pascal Sonatine, the Rueff Sonata, et al.? (As you're aware, the page doesn't give any contents info.)

I also just found it on Tower's site. How stupid is it that it only shows up if you don't search under classical?!?

This one is NOT the Golden Crest LP with Rueff, Gallois-Montbrun, Boutry, and Pascal. This is a later LP containing all arrangements of baroque, classical, and romantic music arranged by Marcel Mule (his "Classiques du Saxophone" collection, hence the LP title).

A big reason why I started this thread many moons ago is because those muppets entering the CD infos at Tower and Amazon make finding these recordings into somewhat of an Olympic event for the customer...

Any word on the release of Delangle's Concerto cd with Singapore? I am also anxiously awaiting Tim McAllister's new cd, and the all-Albright cd by his quartet, PRISM. Also, has anyone heard the new EMI box set of Nobuya Sugawa's? I borrowed it recently, but don't own it. How do we get these in the States??

Nobuya Sugawa's 3-CD set "Exhibition of Saxophone" is available at Amazon.com. A bit pricey, but worth it if you have gift cards to defray the cost....

Yes, the Sugawa set is good. Though, its not my favorite recording of him. Theres just something missing from it. Maybe its his sound on this one, not quite like his others.

However, great music on those, and still worth it.

This isn't a new CD, but it's pretty much newly available after a long interval: the 1995 Coronet CD reissue of the two Rascher Saxophone Ensemble LPs from the mid 1970s. You can get it at CDBaby (cheaper) or Tower (more expensive):

Got the new Apollo Saxophone Quartet CD of Portuguese composers called 'Short Cuts'. Absolutely stunning playing, though some of the pieces themselves will nevcer become classics. Very avant garde, lots of minimalist and atonal stuff on there and well worth a listen to hear some jaw-dropping playing.

It apears that their own website has not been updated with this. You wouldn't have heard of any of the pieces as they have all been especially commissioned.

    Mr. Negrin,

What is the date and location of the Sugawa performance of the Tomasi? My curiosity is piqued. Have a swell day!

(after reading all of the other posts)

You're welcome Mr. Negrin. As for the "In the Company of My Soul" (Brown/Foreman), it is not too shabby.

    Hey,
Thanks for the info. I was at the concert that featured the Tomasi in question. It was a good concert, and am glad they recorded it.

    Have a good one.

I have searched high and low and have been unable to find them for sale at ANY price. Its ridiculous, he's one of the best players int he world and has also made some of the best recordings. I even contacted the Japanese record label and they just replied to say that they were not available in Europe (where I live). Shameful missed opportunity.
