J'Ɖlle Stainer (the same guys who made the sub-A basses) are currently working on manufacturing a true-blue contrabass (they are apparently aiming to have it out in '09), as well as a subcontrabass.. These guys are sure as hell gonna give Eppelsheim a run for his money :D

Take a look at those two pics.. the first picture is a bari EASILY fitting into the pipe-work of the subcontra.. the second pic is of a bari, a mock-up of the subcontra's bell, and one of their compact basses.

I can't wait for these guys to get this monstrosity off the ground.. On second thought, since most sax players aren't body builders it should stay ON the ground :3

Eppelsheim doesn't make a subcontrabass ( although much depends from one's definition of what a sub contrbass is) he makes several low saxophones but the contrabass saxophone in Eb is the lowest sounding instrument that he makes Apologies, I've been corrected!)

as you can see (and hear) , it is not as low as the Steiner's instruments
