The saxophone sections here fill up quickly, I'm told. I'm also told that the level is quite competitive. I'm looking fwd to being a part of it this summer.

I remember my first sax quartet experience was at a summer camp, and it made a real impression on me.

    FYI -

The saxophone studio for CYM is now full, with a waiting list 10 people long. I appreciate the inquiries I've received thus far, and will always welcome more, but the sax class is FULL.

    Thanks, all!

    Each participant will experience daily:
Technique class, taught by James Houlik.
Large Saxophone Ensemble, conducted by Michael Stephenson and Jose Oliver Riojas.
Saxophone Quartet rehearsals, coached by members of the New Century Saxophone Quartet (in residence).
Afternoon recitals - performances by James Houlik, the New Century Saxophone Quartet, participant quartets.
Evening masterclasses - solo classes taught by James Houlik, chamber classes by New Century Saxophone Quartet.
Private lessons with any one of the saxo faculty when available (I've never known one to refuse).
Party every single night. For real.

The food is good, the scenery is stunning, and the facilities are quite nice in this secluded mountain retreat in North Carolina. Follow these links for more info:

The age range is from high school through college. This summer it will be offered in the first session, beginning in late June.

I had the opportunity to attend this festival this summer aiding Dr. Cohen and also doing a lot of playing and learning as well. The sax institute was a first rate experience and was exactly what I was looking for (classical saxophone summer camp/festival/large age range/etc.)

    The Institute Provides:

    - A daily lecture/masterclass run by Dr. Cohen on a variety of subjects ranging from history to repertoire to odd types of saxophones.

    - Saxophone Ensemble with Contrabass through Sopranino saxophone.

    - Exposure to portions of Dr. Cohen's vast saxophone collection including but not limited to: soprillo, conn-o-sax, plastic saxes, straight altos, straight tenors, tubax, bass saxophones, etc., etc., etc.

    - Opportunities to perform in student recitals.

    - A culminating Saxophone concert.

    - unparalleled PC humor

The cost is also somewhat reasonable (approx. $1,200) and this includes food and living arrangements and the opportunity to also participate in other aspects of the festival such as ensembles, etc. Check it out:

Siskiyou Saxophone Workshop is a good one. It's in Ashland, OR and the faculty is the Globe Quartet. Lots of quartet work. It's a week long. Maybe check it out.

This is a great camp for classical sax students. Southern Oregon University Professor, Rhett Bender, runs a wonderful one week camp. Students from middle school through college attend. The music is rigorous. I have sent my son for 2 years and we will be back again this summer. The camp is in beautiful Ashland, Oregon. Come early or stay late and see some Shakespeare at the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
