i ordered a MPC from Mr. HOulik 3 weeks ago and he said he would send it out before he left for his tour in china. I think he may have forgotten or something because it's been 3 weeks since the check went out.

Does anyone know where he is? Is he on tour or doing that Wild Acres thing right now?

I just bought one of these last week out of desperation, since I hate my S80 C* and my custom Brilhart doesn't quite cut it (although, it does get a great classical-style sound, just a little too much buzz), and the concerto competition audition is coming up in a couple weeks...

It arrived today in the mail. I was so excited that despite my 6 hours of practice already today, I threw 'er on my horn and gave 'er a blow.

From the very first note, I fell in love. By far the greatest classical 'piece I've ever tried, better than any Selmer or Vandoren 'piece I've tried (a LOT of them). Sound is beautifully dark yet focused and colorful, free-blowing, low notes are cake, shaping and voicing the sound is cake, altissimo is cake (compared to other classical 'pieces), responds easy, staccatos no problem at all, HUGE dynamic range. Couldn't be happier.

VERY highly recommended, especially for people who hate C*'s.
Jazz theory as it exists today didn't exist when the greats were revolutionizing jazz. Just some food for thought.

How are you finding the balance between the low and middle D? I absolutely love the sound, but it's almost too much much to lip down/up, even when venting with the low C# key and low B key.

Really? That's a little strange... It could be your horn. Sometimes my low notes are difficult when my horn hasn't been adjusted in a while. So far, haven't had a single problem with the balance. Still love the 'piece, even works well as a dark jazz piece (Like a Selmer Soloist or a Brilhart Personaline Hard Rubber)!

I hope you figure out what's wrong, and if you can't, try emailing James Houlik about it.

Does anyone know what happened to his line of soprano mouthpieces? He had (and still has) that as a purchasing option on his personal website? He only sold alto & tenor originally, then added soprano along the way.

However, someone made him a pretty spiffy website, which does not list soprano as a purchasing option (video included): http://saxophonemouthpieces.net

Send him an email and ask him! He's very approachable and easy to do business with.

This is OT, but in the website video, he appears to be playing a Yamaha tenor. Is that his main horn now?

JMax: I sent him a message a while back through the Contact form on his personal site, but probably will follow up with an email. I wanted to wait a while for a response, as I know he has a busy schedule. Yes, he's a great guy. I went to Wildacres in 2014 and found out firsthand.

LostConn: Check out his blog on his personal website. He's been playing a Custom EX for over a year. I believe Stephen Pollock is also playing one too, as I know the owner of his old Cannonball.

Saxetc: My guess is it's his Houlik-Morgan, but I'm not positive.

Update: The soprano piece is no longer available. I was able to order one from his personal site, and never heard anything from him, so I contacted him and he's refunding my money. Apparently, it was an error on his site as he wasn't happy with the soprano puece and pulled it off the market.
