Yeah, I was thinking about this, and you might like this piece if it was slightly more open. You might ask him about that - it seems to project a little more than my Morgan 3C did, although I know you play on a bigger tip opening. That was one of the reasons why I didn't buy another 3C - I wanted a bit more projection, a bit more brightness, and a bit larger (but not quite to 6C) tip opening. This piece gives me all of that.

Whose name do you have to drop to get him to respond to your email? Think it would help if I mentioned I'm a Discombobulated SOTW member??

OK, I'm in good company , I won't take it personally.

Though I must say, this is not a good way to build up a good reputation for your product.

Maybe he's hoping to keep it out of the hands of people that may give it a bad reputation.

I have been known to play jazz on my Morgan 6C.

All that aside, if someone else could front for me, I'd still like to have a .090-.095".

I've been told that Mr. Houlik has been experiencing trouble with his email, and that Duquesne Univ is having internet problems. Weird.

I'll be talking to him soon, and I'll be sure to recommend that at least Chitown gets one...

Seriously, though. If you've been trying to contact him to no avail, PM me your name and day phone, and I'll get it to Houlik next time I get him on the phone.

Thanks for the offer Angel, but I'll be curious to learn when if ever the "normal" channel will yield results. Frankly, it's a little hard for me to believe that an organization like Duquesne would have more than a short interruption of email or Internet service, but who knows.

[Edit] In fairness to Mr. Houlik, I don't know that there's been a formal announcement of the availability of this product, so maybe he's just not prepared to sell to the general public yet.

Interesting. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare Mr. Houlik's mouthpieces to vintage Buescher mouthpieces and/or Rascher mouthpieces?

Yup. They are pretty different...the Houlik piece that I have has a slight rollover baffle and is actually pretty free-blowing compared to the Rascher pieces. It's more similar to the Airflow or something like that, but with a character all its own. I actually wouldn't put the Houlik pieces into the strict Rascher category - they're more of a "tweener" piece, like the Bilgers, Morgans, and Caravan medium chambers. It's actually a little brighter than my old Morgan, but the sound is more focused and it projects better too.

Hard to believe? Yes. Would I put it past Duquesne? Hellll no.

I tried that one first, on March 11, and got the following "response":

But I'll give it another try.

That's weird because that's how I contacted him. It's the same one on his website too. I have a feeling that they have changed the Duquesne mail servers, and he may have a new e-mail addy. I'll try and investigate a bit...
