Is this the horn that you trashed, or did you talk someone into letting you have another???

I now have three altos; all Bueschers - a B7 TH&C, a 140 Big B and my latest acquisition a New Aristocrat. I mostly play the B7 and my primary set-up is a Phil-Tone Solstice with a Hemke 2.5. I also use a Phil-Tone'd Meyer and long shank Soloist from time to time.

So far I am mainly playing the NA with a Caravan large chamber or Wyman refaced Buescher. This setup is a very interesting exploration for me and one which I am enjoying and would probably use in a concert band setting.

Recently switched out my Yani a992 for a 78xxx Mark VI. Both are great horns, but the Selmer has my affections!

Following bruce bailey's lead, I finally tracked down a (modern) Selmer Super Session D on clearance. Sounded real nice on my Zephyr, though not perfect in all ranges. Then I tried it on my The Martin with a Rigotti Gold 2.5 strong and Vandoren M/O lig, and ... dang, this horn's never sounded better to my ears! So rich and easy blowing, I can voice pianissimo way down to Bb like never before, but stillÂ*blow the doors off higher up, all the while keeping the perfect balance of clarity and spread. Plays a bit darker with a La Voz medium, but still nice and full.

'Guess it's no surprise that bruce really knows his Martins.
A little bit louder and a little bit worse.

My backup Zephyr's in the shop for major repairs, so I've happily returned to The Martin, but with a new, killer setup:

    1949 The Martin
    Ted Klum Focustone Acoustimax 6
    Rigotti 2.5 strong
    Vandoren M/O lig

I also finally gave my new-to-me backup-backup horn its first real, gut-wrenching try-out today:

1960s (?) Boosey & Hawkes Oxford (Kohlert Bixley stencil)
    Jody Jazz HR 6
    La Voz medium
    Vandoren M/O lig
A little bit louder and a little bit worse.
