J'Elle Stainer Compact Contrabass Saxophone

J'Elle Stainer Compact Contrabass Sax

Range: Low B to High F (+ Altissimo Key)
Weight: approximated 17,00Kg
Finish: Body - Gold Lacquer
Keys - Gold Plated
Engrave: HandMade (Flower)

I had the opportunity to test and see this sax last Saturday and I'll describe what the feeling was.

After I test the prototype model he made several changes and some of the most important are:

1- Modern and very comfortable Key work, providing fast articulation;
2- Extra 8a key improved, easy to use;
3- Custom Contrabass Mouthpiece by Barkley Mouthpieces;
4- Custom Ligature;

All notes of the range are playable. It has a good intonation and a fat sound, plays smoothly and doesn't take too much air. Off course you should get used to it.

We played at this time testing the contrabass:

Prof Romeo Orsi curved Sopranino
Chinese Straight Sopranino
Chinese Curved Soprano
Cavalier Alto
Jupiter Baritone
Contrabass J'Elle Stainer

We played all these instruments with contrabass doing the base, sounded great.
I'm planning next year use this sax with a Big Band, any news I'll post here.

The contrabass was sent to Gilberto (in Italy) and he'll show to the Europe the Stainer work. Congratulations for the new horn.

I think the price is around 17.000 dollars, a reasonable price for this beast.

I uploaded some photos, hope you guys like.

Léo.

You're using a neck strap and not a harness....OUCH !!!

The contrabass mpc doesn't look much bigger than a bari piece, does it take contrabass reeds? Does anyone even make contrabass reeds?
your neighborhood hardware store?? a piece of 2x4

I was playing the alto at that time, that's why I was using this neck strap...

I used a bass reed with this contrabass mouthpiece, look at this link, there is a pic of the mouthpieces...

ahh..

The contrabass is compact, that's the reason it's "fat". It's smaller than bass saxophone so it's easier to carry...

I don't know if you guys know the Bass Coop Group at Yahoo, there is a video of this saxophone there by Gilberto from Italy.

Here is the video http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/MDNVRx...1k0QFnmHsFTKXP-L2Pn7Fg/Cbass Davide Bruti.wmv

João who makes these horns gives the oportunity of playing this beast before buying, but you should be in Brazil :D
