Hello folks:

Just moved up to Ft. Smith in the NT and I'm afraid the music store scene here is fairly non-existent. Okay, it's non-existent. Does anyone know a good online Canadian store for reeds? I know there are tons south of the border, but I'm trying to buy local.

Vandoren, Rico Royal - I'm easy. Thanks.

Also, I will be looking in the new future for an intermediate/pro alto sax and I'm leaning towards vintage. Any reputable dealers in the area or Canada whom I could conveniently deal with?

I hate to say it as if I can buy locally, usually I will, but generally prices in the US are much much lower, especially so with the exchange rate helping at the moment.

I now mail order from 1 stop clarinet and even if I get hit for the taxes and $6 handeling charge (its about a 50% strike rate from canada post on that) its still cheaper than the best canadian prices I can find

1 stop is:

best canadian place I found online was in hamilton or somewhere like that...but I cant find the link now...

Anyway, this might be usefull, but there are a lot of guitar/ keyboard only canadian stores it seems...

I used legeres on alto and clarinet for a while, and while its the best artificial reed Ive tried, I ended up back on Rico Royals as they just sound fuller to me. If its parade season and the climate is wreaking havoc with them, then Plasticovers work just fine and dont care about the humidity level. A bit of extra brightness doesnt hurt on a parade anyway:)

I'm pretty sure Twigg in Montreal sells reeds etc. on line. They have (or at least used to have) their own brand of reeds which I've heard are okay. For your location, I'd try these guys first. Nice folks.

ps. If there's a store you have in mind, or where you used to live/shop, couldn't you just call them up and ask them to send you what you want?
