I like playing sax, but don't like jazz or big band. (Sorry if that hurts anyone!). I love Clarence Clemens's work with Springsteen. Can anyone recommend solo sax CDs that are in a similar vein?
Thanks,
Check out Sting - Bring on the Night with Branford Marsalis.
For Blues, maybe Stanley Turrentine would be a good listening for you. I don´t know much of him, one song from a compilation, but he´s really great, doesn´t play one note too much!
Or consider listening to the wide variety of jazz and blues until you find something to your tastes. Who knows, maybe you will start to develop an ear for other kinds of music.
When I was stationed in Germany (in the 70s and 80s) we had Armed Forces radio. So we'd get an hour of jazz, and hour of country, an hour of latino music. I was surprised how much the different genres of music would grow more interesting the more you heard them. I started the tour complaining about this system and grew to appreciate it.
