Default Mouthpiece Cafe Grande Supremo Baritone Mouthpiece - Anyone??

Only a few postings I can find about this mouthpiece. Are there really only a couple of owners? I can't find much on youtube or elsewhere either. I wonder if they've sold more than a half dozen. I have another piece that Eric worked on and am really interested in this mouthpiece but don't want to wait two months to find out anything about what it's like...

Anyone? Did I completely miss something in my searching?

    thanks...
    -Mark M.

There is a thread on here about them.
I have one which I received in trade.
I haven't spent too much time on it as yet, but my first impressions are that it blows brighter than I had expected.
I found it quite chirpy at first, but it isn't the type of piece I normally play and I was using and old reed that really should have been put to rest a while ago.
Having said that, it can easily be brought back with the right reed and reed strength.
Seems like a very well made and finished piece.
I'm looking forward to giving it some more time soon as it really does seem to be a very nice piece.
I also have a Vandoren Double chamber EG modified piece, which blows really nicely.
The two seem quite different to me, but there is also quite a difference in their tip openings so it is hard to compare.
Both tune well on my The Martin Bari and my early 12M.
    The Vandoren slightly better though.

Sounds like a coffee order; 'café grande supremo In fact I think I'll invent a coffee to fit that description.

I had one. Nice mpc, very punchy and powerful but I preferred my HR rubber yani that Erik did for me, also based around a slant sig design.
I also found mine a little on the chirpy side, so reed choice was crucial.

I'm looking for a new piece for my '54 The Martin. So that's good to hear it tunes on it. Which model Vandoren did EG mod for you?
    thx

I guess he uses the V5 as a start from what I'm reading...

    Here's the other thread.....
    https://forum.saxontheweb.net/showth...ari-mouthpiece

There's a couple of dodgy quick clips of me playing mine in there too.
Thinking back now I parted with mine because it was a little too bright and tonally unstable for me.
I really like the vandoren baritone mouthpieces, both V5 and V16, though both will be hard to play in tune on an old horn if not altered.

Yes the V5 is what I have.
I previously had an unaltered V5 B75, although a good piece it was a little twangy or nasally for my liking.
I don't know if it was Eric's work or just the larger tip opening, but the B95 is far better for me.
And it has the bonus of playing quite well in tune on the older horns.
Id like to try Eric's Yanagisawa Slant pieces again as the one I had on loan from a friend was quite nice and not too bright.
I do have an unaltered Yanagisawa 7 which is a great piece on the Yamaha Bari, but doesn't tune well on the older ones.

I'll probably order one up. I was about to order the Grande Surpremo but feedback on Erik's modified B5 seems to be more solid. I thought I was settled for a while with mouthpieces but here we go again...

Ah yes I read that thread a few times. And that's about the total of all the conversation I could find regarding this mouthpiece. I'm tempted to buy several mouthpieces to compare, but maybe I'll start with an EG B5 and see how that goes to start... Thanks

Very interesting how different everyone's experiences are. I had one of these on loan from B9 when I did my dirty-dozen bari mouthpiece shoot-out and found it to be darker and more resistant than just about anything else I've played. I was challenged in finding a reed I really liked a lot on it and settled for something that was less than ideal. Design-wise it looks great for jazz combo and big band playing and the craftsmanship is excellent it just didn't work well for me. What tip openings are you all playing on this piece? I think the one I tried was a .120 if I remember and I wonder if a smaller tip would have worked better for me.

    Mine is a 7 or 7*.
Reed friendliness seems to be an issue with these, but again for me it's quite a different type of piece with all that baffle.
So my thoughts are also based on what I'm more used to.
I do think there is something really nice about this piece that you could work with.
I'd like to put that time in but I have been struggling to find time to play at all recently.

Yes, mine is .120. For me it doesn't seem dark at all, but has a lot of bottom, huge chamber, coupled with a short facing and fairly high rollover baffle. If anything it is slightly too aggressive for me, but if I worked with it for a while I think it would be fine. Alternatively, EG can put a less aggressive facing on it.

These are very fine mouthpieces for a reasonable price.

Do you have an interest in selling it?

Has anyone on here had any problems with ordering from Mouthpiece Cafe? After reading this discussion I wanted to try one of their Cafe Grande Supremo Bari pieces but now am involving in something a bit unpleasant.
