For me, Lewis's greatest role was his blistering portrayal of a man simmering with barely-suppressed rage in Martin Scorsese's "The King of Comedy." Gave me new respect for his depth as an actor. In real life he had his issues, which we will no doubt learn more about now that he's gone.

Great scene with the Basie band. And at the end of that sequence, where he runs back up the stairs, at the top he suffered what he called a Cardiac event. Spent 4 days in the hospital. He also invented the system of video assist so he could direct himself and taught filmmaking at USC. In IMHO, not enough credit for his work behind the camera.
