    Default 233 Alto neck

I took my recently acquired 233 alto to the tech today to get it up and running and, aside from it needing quite a bit of work, he said he was reluctant to even work on it since it doesn't have the right neck. I'm not proud of how ignorant I was buying an old Holton with brass keys and a neck with a big fat nickel-plated sheet metal octave key, but I was really excited to score a professional Holton for $120.

I do have a Collegiate alto at home, and the neck fits (as does the neck the 233 came with) but I was curious if anyone knows if they are interchangeable. I can't play test them since the horn does have a dent right under the palm D key and the key does not close over the tone hole, hence my trip to the tech today.

Any information or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

If the neck is for that horn the finish doesn't matter. Altos don't matter much anyway as long as the neck fits and works.

If you can post a couple of pictures of the neck, we can probably help you and tell you what it is.

Yes I would like to see as well.

FWIW, however, Collegiate necks do generally work well with Holton Top-Shelf models. I have done that a few times.

If the Collegiate neck fits and intones the horn up and down well...then YOU are in a better position than any of use to determine if it's an apt replacement. I know on Tenors, a Collegiate neck was a good match...

Out of curiosity please post a pic of the neck that came with the 233.

Revelations are fantastic horns, even with a Collegiate neck and a $400 refurb bill it will still turn out to be a classic horn at a great price...

I am baffled as to why a tech would not proceed with work on a horn with a replacement neck however. It's not like finding an apt replacement is some sorta big quagmire, really...
