Default Menu jumping during loading several times

Is not the end of the world and I know the forum will have ads to stay alive but is there a way to have the forum format locked in place with what seems to load slower than menu bars.

om tablets it getting kind of annoying lately. I open the program. I think I have waited long enough, I tap new posts...or navigate somewhere. Then ban! I'm where I did not want to go because banner ads move the screen right when I selected from the horizontal menu.

yes I know I could wait longer but this is the twentyfirst century. Can't we get it right? Perhaps the banners are loading slow due to excess resolution? I don't know..I'm not a webmaster. I just know I get tired of the page changing position while loading. I realize it's a pet peeve but so be it.

just for the record it is prevalent enough that if I am working on my desktop thensame happens, my desktop is a freaking speed machine with very fast broadband...

itmdoes this all through forum use, not just logging on. It is disruptive to sane navigation.

if it is your advertisers bloat ware ware just tell them to thin it down. It's making me want to actively not shop through them!

I agree - I'm experiencing the same thing. It is annoying, even though it's a minor thing.

I give out a big ARGHHHHH!!!! everytime I login. I hate having to scroll, just to read the first item on any section.

Yes, it's very easy, they just need to have placeholders that fix the height of the ads.

That seemed possible to me too Pete.

Its been bugging me a while but finally enough to whine! lol

Ideally...at least in my world the page would hold still once the framework loaded and you can navigate to where you are going as the other things fill in.

Granted...patience may not be my middle name but anyway....

Im glad Im not the only one who noticed. I thought maybe I was just neurotic
...which I am. However, that is a whole other thread (or book)

Same thing has been happening to me (on my desktop). I kind of got used to it, and it's not a big deal, but still mildly annoying.

My bank's site does the same thing, right as you're trying to login! You learn to pause, quickly......

Earlier I said having the menu jump around was 'mildly annoying.' Now I can say it's driving me crazy! Kind of a cumulative annoyance. I also seem to detect a reduction in overall posting lately (could just be my imagination); maybe this is partly why?

Any chance this can be fixed and we can go back to when the menu stayed relatively stable?

Agreed. This issue bugs the heck out of me. It seems like the technical people were around quite a bit right after the sale, but have become less visible recently. It's frustrating.

Sorry if we dropped out there guys. Going to double check out alert set up for the site to make sure we aren't missing anything else.

Part of the problem seems to be that both of the banner ads are loading at the top of the page. One should be loading at the bottom. Means there is a sizable portion of the top part of the screen being used.

Going to get the bottom banner moved back to where it belongs and see how much the jump as it loads is then.

In case that doesn't help, let me know what kind of tablets you are using and what browsers and we'll start digging

Thanks. I'm just using a desk top PC, no tablet or i pad or any of that and it's still an issue on the PC.

For me, it's not the big jumps as much as it is the one or two line jumps just as I get ready to click or tap. It's the same on mobile and desktop. Thanks for looking into this.

Alright, I made one assumption that the banner placement was incorrect. Apparently it's supposed to be like. I'm new in these parts

I need to track how much of jump, and how fast those banner ads load. Can you guys give me your best estimates how long they take?

Why not just have a minimum height div to stop the jumping while they load?

    e.g.

    Code:
    #SaxOnTheWeb_net_728x90_Top_COL_Forum
    {min-height:90px}
Plus whatever else need for other screen widths if necessary)

I don't even know enough about web work to be dangerous. But I did just now jump up to the "Advanced Reply Button in French..." thread (which was above this one at the time) when trying to hit this thread.

Thanks guys. I'm still in contact with my tech who deals with ad layouts and such, so I'll see what we can do to minimize the jump
