    FWIW, these are some of the most consistently good factory faced pieces and remarkably affordable, so I wouldn't sleep on a non-refaced one either.

    In my case, mine was TERRIBLE The piece after a proper facing is very different and plays very easy.

    Sorry to hear that. I've owned 2 or 3 of them that were all quite good and the general consensus seems to be that they're usually pretty good out of the box. I guess there will always be some hits and some misses though with any off the shelf piece.

    I have one that is original and plays pretty OK, and one refaced by Phil Engleman which is fantastic. They're not bad stock, but refaced I think they can be really great (and SO much better than a tone edge)

    I have had only relatively well playing ones so far - but they seem to be less open than one would expect.
    I have observed this for three of them now.
    Also baffle shapes vary drastically! Some are extremely asymmetrical (but still play well).
    Waiting for the next (an 8 ;o) it looked a little as if it had a step baffle on the pics... We'll see!
