Getting a repad that's turning into a rebuild on my trusty old Silver '68 VI Tenor..I mail ordered the finest Kid Pisoni's and custom O versize Brass resos from Tenor Madness..wasn't cheap. Now my local guy has had my horn 3 wks already and after a few conversations wow he's doing the whole enchilada..cleaning. tube straightening, some corks felts etc etc, man am I stoked. I played the horn since '81..it was unplayed and looked brand new when I bought it. Many miles and memories, the VI never let me down.
I am blessed with a great local repair guy, his work is superb and reasonable, He is the typical mad scientist and you have to jog his memory once in a while but it's worth it.
Tech said actually wasn't really bent when he said he checked it, It always looked a bit bowed to me. Optical illusion maybe. I was told setting the horn down hard in the case can bend a tube.
I'd love to have mine completely gone through but I'm afraid it would play different. Silly, I know.
I tend to just tweak it myself and I'm used to all the idiosyncraties of it not being perfect.
Well after 35 yrs blowing of my VI, at the end even with duct tape and rubber bands it played better than ever. I can't imagine it will play "worse" when I get it back..different ? sure !! I hope I'll like it..
Got the VI back home here's a couple of my amateur pics..she's ready for the final white glove polish..trust me these pics don't do it justice.Just an awesome saxophone.
