Anyone have any experience with making/installing a custom octave thumb rest? The rounded shape of the thumb rest on my 6M alto gets uncomfortable after a while and I want something that's more flat, which has worked very well for me on my modern Selmer tenor. I know there's the option of using some type of moldable epoxy to build up the shape I'm looking for, but was thinking a custom replacement would be a more interesting solution. I think a dime from 1952 (year the sax was made) would be really cool and a dime is the perfect size to fit in the space.
Has anyone ever done something like this and could you share your experience? Is this a bad idea and going to end up being more trouble than it's worth?
