Default Is this Selmer Super Session a fake?

I have been offered a Selmer Super Session alto mouthpiece as shown on the attached pic. Is this a genuine Selmer mouthpiece or a fake one?

Probably just belonged to someone very odd

Dont know why anyone would bother to fake a SS.

Dont buy it if there is paint on the table and facing.

I also wonder what it is painted with.

Might not be something you want in your mouth.

can you find out what coating was used.

    Got pictures of the inside?

I'm wondering if someone made a mold of a SS and then cast it in fanciful colored resin.

    you might be right doc.

My first impression was it was covered with a bunch of color and goo

Guess it could be a cheap casting...school experiment?

Thanks for your quick answers to my post.
The seller is asking US$ 130, and I'd rather spend my money on a real Super Session than on a fancy but fake one.

Also make sure if you're in the market for an alto Super Session, if it's new you can return it. I swear by the soprano Super Sessions, but not so much with the altos.

And in regard to the monstrosity pictured, I'm wondering if someone got a hold of the casting to sneak their own copies out the back door.

Ive always thought SS alto pieces were resistant as hell...even after a reface. At least my memory says so.

I think there are a ton of better options.

Im sure there are plenty that disagree.

I'd say copy/fake. Look at the ligature "line"....if you want to call what looks like a poorly carved, not so straight line. Can't imagine anything like that coming from a Selmer factory. One thing I do know......it's F-U-G-L-Y.

I think it could be the product of at home silicone/urethane casting....and not a good one.

Most home production is also not food grade (or close).

Yup. Especially in comparison with the much more free-blowing soprano Super Sessions. Just goes to show you, although there are exceptions... Link for tenor, not Alto. Meyer for alto, not tenor. Now maybe Super Session for soprano, not alto?

I must have obtained a one-of-a-kind alto Super Session, then. Mine is the most free-blowing alto mouthpiece I own (F tip). Compared to my soprano Super Sessions (of which I have many), the alto SS is an easier-blowing piece. I suppose the lesson - again - is that we all react differently to mouthpieces. DAVE

I managed to speak to the seller, and even though his advertisement didn't mention this, he told me that it's indeed a copy. He claims that his copies are better than the original one because after they come out of the mold, he finetunes each individual copy. Anyhow, based on all feedback that I've seen in this thread I feel that I'd better spend my money on an original mouthpiece. Thanks all!
