Hi, learning to play sax again after a 30 year layoff. Getting interested in vintage saxes, cheers jase.
Hey everyone! Stoked to join the forums, looking forward to learning a few things here!
hi folks, new player here.
at 48 am I too old to be a beginner? I shall find out
Returning player here! I haven't played my alto in about 10 years and decided to bite the bullet on a soprano-- quelle horreur. This site was invaluable to me while I was deciding to get a horn, etc., so I figured I should stop lurking and sign up now that I'm playing again.
I started to learn Sax 4 months ago.
It was an old dream, more than 30 years.
I should have started earlier.
I have limited formal training in music. I have very limited funds, so I'm trying to teach myself how to play tenor and alto sax. I'm looking for whatever help I can find, and I think I landed in the right place.
For right now, I'm doing a lot of reading here, so that should keep me busy.
73 years ago I started out with nothing; and I still have most of it left.
I am a huge fan of SOTW. Such an incredible resource of information. In the years before the internet you had to basically figure out so much sax related information yourself. Now there is a vast amount of knowledge so freely shared here on the worldwide web.
For a number of years I have been a reader without ever getting around to registering and posting. Hopefully I can contribute some worthwhile discussion and information to the forum.
I'm Matthew, from around Manchester in the UK. Studied music through University and played on the ships for a while before becoming disillusioned and moving into IT.
Recently rediscovered my love of the horn and playing both alto and tenor again for fun, mostly noodling around to backing tracks and the like.
Thought I'd sign up and see if I can find out who the upcoming sax players are; I'm a big fan of Branford Marsalis and Kenny Garrett. Recently discovered Tivon Pennicott who's awesome!
New member --- former clarinet player switched to bari. and sop. sax many years ago. Looking to starting sax again after many years of playing lots of other musical instruments.
Hi, I'm Diego, and I've been playing the saxophone for about 10 years, although only as a hobby on an intermediate level. I play a Mark VII tenor saxophone and a Roland AE10 electronic wind instrument. Hope to get answers to some questions I might have, and maybe I'll be able to help others as well!
I'm Sam, hoping to give and get some advice on here. I'm an alto and soprano player from NYC area.
Hello, I'm Jim S. from Texas. I was lurking and then had a login for ~8 years, but I don't play. Yet. Well, a little . . . father of a band student; fixed a lot of oboes and saxes that went on the fritz. Often in near dark or orange light. With tubas honking in the background. Using a pocket knife as a screwdriver. Without my glasses. It was awful. So, I loved it. Thank you for hosting this Mecca.
Hello, I am Martin from czech (it is in Europe, next to Germany). I am very old, and I am beginner. I want to buy new (definitely only new) alto sax, up to $ 1,500. But, I have some "short fingers" - any recommendations for me?
Is here somebody from czech?
Mostly a bari player, but I have an alto and C-melody also. Currently researching better case options for my bari since I just turned 40 and have some health problems. I play weekly in a community concert band, consider it literally physical therapy! Good for the soul too Minored in music in college (mechanical engineer), and played in the big band as well as concert band. Been known to dabble in the funk also This site is an amazing resource, I hope to contribute too.
I am a flute/piccolo player who was drafted to play tenor sax in high school for the jazz band many years ago. I went to school in six different locations will in 1st thru 12. Music was my constant since third grade. I took private lessons for a short time in college and played in a community type band briefly. I still play flute at church a little each year. I have questions about the value of a DeFord flute I have and that is how I found this website. The experience and knowledge on here is amazing. Thanks
