I wish someone would put a G mezzo in production. P.Mauriat or Sakkusu, come on! It truly is the most desirable "missing" saxophone, different from both alto and soprano, in the pitch range where it makes the most difference. If it happens though, i hope they do it as a curved soprano rather than straight, it is no doubt the most practical design, this straight one is similar in size to a straight alto which, although cool, is just too long for many situations!
Well, it's over $10,000 though, and not mass produced. Curiously, the design has changed a bit since the first prototypes, the bell is almost straight on the new ones:
There is no market for mass production, at least not yet, and Peter makes almost no money from G mezzo. You are right about the bell design, but I don't know why it has changed. I will ask.
All he needs is a big name endorsement. Who better to popularize the G sax than Kenny G, or even SOTW's own Dr. G.
