I was just watching videos from his new LP yesterday, I can't believe he's gone. Such a legend of modern music. Sad indeed.

    Adios Thin White Duke.

Thank you for so much beautiful, innovative, and memorable music. A man who appreciated and played the sax all his adult life.
When I play, I feel Henri Selmer's presence; trying to rub his name off my horn.

Such a phenomenal talent! I am so shocked and saddened to hear about this.
I didn't realize he was fighting a battle with cancer.

I'm in a state of disbelief and shock. When I saw the post about it on FB 20 minutes ago for a moment or two I figured it was a joke story by the Onion or something because he just reinvented himself yet again with the new album and his birthday was just a few days ago. But it is true and what's more he fought cancer for a year and a half and somehow kept it secret. So it comes out of nowhere and is that much more shocking and sad news. 69 is not old here in my neck of the mountain, and after 40+ years loving his music, it is hard to accept that this brilliant creative being is gone from the world.

This is a live performance I've always enjoyed: the Thin White Duke and the Queen of Rock & Roll singing and dancing together.

A couple of Bowie snippets..When Hunky Dory came out and I was at school I wrote to David care of the Melody Maker asking about his sax on Changes. His reply was printed ( Letter of the Week!) and he went into great detail about his then alto ( a Grafton) ..he told me about the plastic reeds he used and how to sand them down, how he'd picked stuff up from the sax players in Sounds Incorporated. Loads of stuff. It was a warm, enthusiastic reply..

When he started making money he bought a VI alto and a low A baritone from Bill Lewington on Shaftsbury Avenue. They had a signed picture of him holding his new VI bari in there for years.
An old mod from the 60's and a true artist who never stopped being creative.

I always remember a story my mate Dave Palmer drummer from ABC told me when they were playing BBC's Top of the Pops . Bowie was on too .A huge fan Dave was in the toilet ( Men's Room) stood relieving himself when in walked Bowie , stood at a cubicle and said laughing " Is this where all the big knobs hang out?" An old joke but always makes me laugh and shows what a down to earth bloke he was.

    So sad.

David Bowie was such a major part of my life growing up.

When I bought my first walkman -it was either a walkman 3 or 4 I think - I had a tape that on one side was the The Clash and on the other side was Bowie Changes One. I can't count how many times I must have listened to that tape, and I still love both albums.

And for us sax players, how about Modern Love with 2 sax solos!!

I missed his touring exhibit when it was in London. I sure hope it come back again soon.

    RIP...

That's very sad and unexpected news.

I just visited three weeks ago the exhibition 'David Bowie is' about his life and music. The exhibition was/is in Groningen NL, coming from London, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Chicago, Paris and Melbourne with in total more then 300.000 visitors:

I'm not a huge fan, but my lady and especially her now 21 year old daughter are very much into his stuff.

She (the daughter) made a lot of drawings and animations about David Bowie when she was younger and is still a huge fan:

I got to see and hear Bowie in 1990 at The Paleur in Rome. It was his SOUND & VISION Tour with Adrian Belew on guitar. No glitter, no theatrics, just a 5 piece band playing the hits. I still have my backstage pass from that fabulous show. It was a powerful performance from a serious band.

Sail on, David Bowie. Ziggy Stardust, too.

What sad news. I thought I was still dreaming when I saw the headlines. His was one of the first outside voices I recall hearing. Just watched him again as Andy Warhol in Basquiat a couple of days ago. Great performance.
