By chance I stumbled on an ad for an Evette & Schaeffer bass saxophone for sale in France, near Montélimar, for under 3k euros!

The same ad has been posted on other sites as well. Google: Evette Schaeffer Saxophone Basse 1926.

I don't know the guy, but it appears he is trying to sell off an instrument that was his father's. Frankly speaking - in France, the market for a non-Selmer, vintage, bass saxophone is virtually non-existent. And the chances for a local sale are slim. So that might explain the asking price.

Shipping is probably going to be an issue, but if you are looking for a bass and have the opportunity to try it out in person here in France, then you might just get a great deal!

I don't see an LP.
And according to saxpics on this article: http://www.saxpics.com/?v=man&manID=2
"So, if you find one of these older horns, look for the "LP" stamp near the "Evette & Schaeffer" engraving. If you don't see it, the horn might be fun to have as a collectible or if you do solo work (or work with electronic instruments), but not as a performance horn with modern ensembles."
And he's saying that it's probably only LP if it's marked LP, which that isn't.
However, Pete has said several times that he has gotten things wrong on it, so it might still be LP.

He also posted a youtube video,

You'll have to sit through some pretty bad playing (he isn't a sax player), but at around 2:00 he fingers low C which sounds like a Bb in A=440Hz to me. So unless I misinterpret something, the horn is a regular LP horn.
