I would try to get your price with a local, Craig's List sale first. Assuming it's going to sell for $5K or more, shipping is a hassle and insurance options are limited with many carriers (you have to read the fine print).
You would be best off selling for a pick up locally. I would not want to ship a bass. Couriers require instruments to be in a hard case and double boxed, so that would be incredibly expensive.
I will be following the thread as I may sell mine at some point.
Thanks for all of the advice. My fear was shipping and insurance charges etc. Craigslist does seem like a good idea since I am between NYC and Boston. My Daughter is going to help me take some photos this weekend to post on this site. It's a complete set-up,Beuscher Bass Sax, Case, Stand, Harness and two bass sax mouthpieces. Maddenma, I'm going to try and figure out a fair market price so that it is a good deal for both myself and the buyer. If someone were to buy it in the NYC / Boston area, I would be very happy to take a road trip and hand deliver the Bass myself.
I bought it 30 years ago. It has been a tough decision to sell, but I would like to see it go to someone that would use it more than I currently am.
Finally, I have some photos to share. From the serial #, the Bass is from 1922. I also used some Winol and discovered the beautiful gold finish underneath. The pads are like new. As a size reference, I stood next to the bass, I'm 6' 2".
Hey Rob, I am very glad that the Bass has found a good home and I know you will put it to very good use! I had the Bass since 1979 and hopefully you will enjoy playing it for another 35 plus years! Thanks, Doug
