Blue Wink Re: What is your Yamaha set-up?

    My setup:

    YTS-62 Purple label
    MP: Vandoren V16 T7
    Reeds: Vandoren Traditional (blue) 3

I also have a metal Otto Link STM 7, but I dont like it at all. It's seems very closed compared to my Vandoren T7, besides that I don't like a sound so bright and metallic.

I think the Vandoren T7 was the perfect match for my 62 tenor. In fact, after nearly 20 years using the same Meyer NY 6 with my alto, I'm willing to give a chance to the vandoren mouthpieces (Also for my soprano, where I'm using a Selmer Super Session F)

Switched my YSS-875 to a YSS-875EX. I'm probably going to switch mouthpieces to a Rousseau NC3, but I want to have it refaced because there are some issues in the facing curve first. The horn needs a couple of small corks, but it's otherwise a new horn. No high G key on it, plain golden lacquer.
    Current setups:
    Yamaha YSS-875EX, Selmer Soloist C**, Ishimori lig,Hemke 3.5
Yamaha YAS-875EXS, Rousseau RC4 (refaced by Brian Powell), Ishimori lig,Hemke 3.5

Kessler Solist Bari, Rousseau NC4, BG Tradition lig, Hemke 3.5

Purple logo YTS-62, Sakshama Shorty, Rovner Light / Selmer 404 (still trying both), Regal Queen 3's

I only have the YTS for four days now and have been switching between the Shorty and a Lebayle Metall Jazz. Both are great with the YTS, but for now I've settled on the Shorty. I left my STM at the shop when I bought the YTS to have the facing cleaned up. Should be back next month, so maybe I switch mpc by then. But I'm very happy with this set-up now. These 62's are really really nice to play. I love the sound, it fits very nice in my hands. I'm very happy with this horn. I should have found one of these years ago.
    De gustebus non est disputandum

YTS62 Purple Logo - Sakshama Shorty.........thinking about getting a soprano.....

YAS-61 with replacement neck, Gregory Hollywood 5 20M, ancient Rovner ligature, Rico Royale 4. Haven't changed anything on this setup in 40 years.

The original YAS L-1 mouthpiece is still in the case, but I don't remember ever playing it.

Bought the horn from a guy that worked in a music shop. He got it new with his employ discount, and wanted money for a new car. He had it in a nice hard shell gig pack he wouldn't sell, so I carried it around in a gig bag my mom made from leftovers from a sofa re-upholster until the leader of the band I was playing in gave me an old Chesterfield tray-pack. The zipper had given out, so he put a couple of heavy duty trunk latches on, and it's still holding together. Have gotten a few cross looks over the years when I pull a Yamaha out of a Selmer case ...

I'm a bit of a Yamaha fan. I particularly like the ergonomics, the intonation, the build quality and the free-blowing character. My current line-up:
YBS-32 Purple Logo with Selmer S90 mouthpiece
YTS-62 Purple Logo, YTS-23 and YTS-25 tenors with Otto Link "Early Babbit" mouthpieces
YAS-23 alto with vintage Selmer Airflow mouthpiece
YSS-475 soprano with Bari metal mouthpiece

The YBS-32 and YTS-62 are my favorites, and I would love to see and try a Yamaha bass saxophone.
Baritone: Selmer Mark VI, Yamaha YBS-32 Bass: Selmer SA80 Series II Tenor: Selmer Super Action 80 Series II, Yamaha YTS-62 Purple Logo, P. Mauriat PMXT66R, Trevor James SC Raw, Keilwerth The New King Series III

    Minor refinement on tenor:
Tenor: Still on my long term 82Z with an older Barone neck
Reeds: Still on Bari* mediums lightly sanded since I hate the ridges
MPC: This is where I've moved from a Matt Wickam/TW MofoI .110 to a new MofoII. This new version adds more depth with a little more darkness and improved overall flexibility. The best feature is the ability for it to take in more air with excellent constancy across the range of the horn.

When I was in my twenties, my first sax was a Yas-23.. I played on it for many years, at the end of my study years in Delft, I traded it in for a conn 10m ladyface. 15 years later I got a Magenta soprano and recently my teacher had an yas-32 for sale for 600€, I tried it and fell in love with it. It plays well, and it has a nice sound. It may sound weird, but my mouthpiece is a Selmer C*, tried other ones but this one I like most...

Very interesting thread, specially those posts where the contributor not only just say what is his/her set-up but explain why he/she has decided to use that MPC or that reed and de results they obtain with those setups.

    Thank you.

    Alto:
Custom 875 silver lacquer, Rovner Wilkerson T6 (the white mpc), Rovner Versa lig, Vandoren Java Red 3

I got that horn used when I was in high school and it has never done me wrong. The mpc I found in a junk drawer at a local music shop, bought it for cheap, and found that with control, the brightness can be tempered into a strangely dark sound.

    Bari:

YBS-52, Vandoren V16 B9, Optimum lig, Vandoren Java red 3
Affordability is the name of the game. The 52 is a beast and although it can lack the finer qualities of the pro level, it is $4,000 cheaper. And it will last. I've put that horn through the ringer and will continue to due so without worrying that it will fall apart on me.
