You can Have the music from here: http://imslp.org/wiki/
Im playing it in the original pitch, lots of high note but its cool..
not a "great" bach though...
Also, I'd take a look at the sonata in Bach's collected works (it's in the M3's at the Northwestern library, probably the same or similar at yours) to help make phrasing decisions, etc. Published versions, even Urtext, have editor markings that you may or may not want to follow, and the collected works generally give you some insight as to Bach's original intentions.
I can't believe an event such as Dinant would use a transcription as a required piece.
How are we supposed to be taken seriously as classical performers when we don't even play the music written specifically for our instrument??
Bach is important. Who cares if he didn't write for us? History just happened to work out that our instrument was invented after he was dead. No one can help this fact. Just about everything else (if not everything else; check out Dr. Romain's post) in the competition was written for saxophone, including the piece for the final round which is a new concerto written for the competition. I personally see nothing wrong in requesting a transcription for a competition. Music is music.
i would tend to agree with Sax Max, i'm not sure why they included this, but i do understand the historical significance of doing bach. however, i'd keep this to pedagogical and not performance purposes.
Hi, I would suggest reading what the OP posted and stay on topic. There's no point in hijacking this thread and turning it into something else that has been discussed millions of times.
