SuperAction 80 II Tenor here. 6 weeks and counting. Still getting used to my horn, and will probably have it overhauled. It is about 20 years old and might be a candidate. Going with black roo pads, and brass resos.

    Cool The Best Horn!!

For all the saxophones I have played, Mark VI's included, Series II is the very best.

I am becoming part of the brotherhood this friday when I receive my tenor SA 80 Serie II which I recently bought, upgrading my yamaha yts 61, which I will keep along with my 1919 buescher tenor.

    I'm in, alto & tenor.

I like the sound on my VI better, but the SA80II is so much easier to play in tune.

Boots left a VI for a Series II. Can we make him an honorary member?

Owned a bari, sold it. Great horn. Loved it for pit work, but I needed a bit more oomph in the low end. Still have my alto though. Love that horn.

We tried this about a year ago, and it went for awhile, you should try to merge the threads. I had asked for posters to add their serial #'s, because I had tried 15 or so II altos over a wide range of serial #'s and found drastic differences.

That being said, I have a II alto and tenor. The alto replaced both a Series III and a Buffet S1. The tenor is used in big bands mostly, and it hasn't dissapointed against SBA's, Vi's, Super 20's, and, er Cannonballs...???...that last is a given...

Well, I have a Serie I tenor, but my neck is a Serie III. Based on averages, I think that I have a Serie II.

Well, I have never played on a II, tenor or alto, that I didn't like. The alto version is especially cool.

I 2nd the Boots Randolph nomination.

Did you see that recently his callaway golf bag, and sax gig bag was auctioned off?

Going from Yamaha to Selmer. Great upgrade! Did you buy a new II series reference or a vintage/used model?

I played on a 61 for about two months before finding a nice Couf and using that for 6 years.

I finally saved enough for a 1990 SA80II which is so very different than both of the latter mentioned it is taking me some time to adjust, not to mention I am on the mouthpiece hunt after many years.

SER II Bari, Great horn, with an RPC HB mouthpiece. Liked it so much I bought a Ser II tenor, and using an Oleg MK VI neck on it. Improved the sound. Played in tune in hot or cold weather, which can be a problem in the mtns where I live.

    Funny!

Serie II alto here. Wonderful horn. Replaced a Conn 6M for it. If I had enough money to keep two horns each, I would never have gotten rid of the 6M, which was a wonderful instrument and a perfect compliment to the Selmer. But, alas, I don't have that kind of money. Too bad, because that Lady Face was great. However, for what I wanted, the Serie II is just a bit . . . greater.

(OTOH did not care for the Serie II tenor over the other modern Selmers and went for a III. Not that anyone asked. )
