Hi Tim, I enjoy your work.
Generally, playing over chord changes is a weak area for me.
Your "Ear Training on chords" exercise works my brain! And it took quite some thought to get any kind of grip of what is going on there, seeing the sequence, as it were.
    Great training aids.
    Thanks, Don

Thought I'd share this- and info on teaching topics.

STAR EYES ON ALTO...... many years ago.

I am often asked about scales used to solo over chord progression. My response is usually to shift focus more on developing your phrasing rather than simply learning new scales. Learning new scales only will produce limited results because THE WAY you play has not really changed. Improving your phrasing deals more with the actual element of HOW rather than "what" notes to play. When it comes to phrasing, remember that it is all about the little nuances that can make ALL the difference.

    Thank you- Tim Price

PS- Here is a fun YOU TUBE of my friend Ernie Watts trying my SilverSerie3 tenor at NAMM 2011 SHOW in California.

    Hey, Tim,
Thanks for the friend request---I'm happy to accept. I haven't been around SOTW much lately---crazy busy---but always like to see your posts. As a returnee to sax after an absence too long to reveal, SOTW and its gurus (you being one of the best) have been invaluable to me. Thanks. If you are ever down my way, stop by.

Hi Tim...sorry for the confusion. This phone is going for diagnostics and repairs on Sat. Yeah, thanks man. To be a " friend " would be a real pleasure. Not exactly sure what it is about really. Friendship....cool. Look forward to some good conversation. Very nearly gave phone up. I dont do computers. I am really digging S.O.T.W. It would be a shame to leave so soon....thanks Tim...peace. adrian

Hi Tim, just signed you up too. Funny though, I had read an article you wrote about transcriptions and how it was your job so one should go out and buy the book (or something to that effect!), I did. Unfortunately it doesn't correspond at all to any version of 'Stars Fell over Alabama' that I've ever heard. What a shame!

Hi Tim. I just signed you up as one of my "friends".
Just to let you know, I'm in the Seattle area and have studied with Don Lanphere and Hadley Caliman (which are both no longer with us) for about two years with each one. I'm an old fart (66) and didn't learn much other than I had a lot to learn. I've enjoyed your post over the time here on SOTW. I grew up in Arkansas, hence "ArkansasRed". Cheers and Happy Holidays to you.

I'm grateful for the excellent and *helpful* information you share, and also the way you enjoy steering us towards some of the many underappreciated jazzers from the past some of us should know about.

    Later.

    Hi Tim

Thank you so much for the message. I find the forum full of great information, insights and points of view.
It reminds me constantly of what I know or think I know or most certainly do not know.
Your posts are always about moving forward, and that is the whole idea, after all.

    Be well and play on!

Thanks for your concern. Things have popped up which haven't allowed me to touch my bassoon in almost a week (damn clarinet technique drills). I'll check it out and post in the forum by the end of the week.

Hey, great to meat you. I don't really know Dan Perez, he just talks like really knows how to play so I thought I would add him.
I like to play lots of stuff. I like Smooth Jazz a lot. Dave Koz, Kenny G, David Sanborn and Greg Vail are some of my favorites. I'm new to the world of improv, and with internet being my only resorce It sorta makes my brain swell somtimes. I won my fair's talent show so on to the MN state fair. Anyway... Catcha Later!
