I'm not an specialist, but the pads and keys seems to be in good condition. I still want to take to a professional to check leaks and other things, but I'm not sure that here in Rio de Janeiro I will be able to find a good one. Specially, because these instrument seems to be very old and shows a mechanism that is not found on more traditional bass clarinets.

It's been really hard to find information about this insturment on the web. Hope you can help me. The best thing would be to take the clarinet to you, but me and the intrument we are now in Brazil.
If you have any source of information about this instrument I would be appreciate if you send it to me.
    Thanks for your time,
    Henrique

    Hi Chris,
I read an old post (2008) from you here on SOTW descibing a low E Conn Bass Clarinet. I just got one of these and would like to share with you some aspects of the instrument, particularly regarding the two speaker keys mechanism. The insturment seems to be pretty much the same as the one you describe. There are two speakers keys on the back, just above the thumb plate. But none of them are in the standard position, like in a soprano clarinet. The keys are kind of symmetrical in respect of the thumb plate (both are reachable with my left thumb) but one is a little bit on the left and the other keys is a little bit on the right. The left key when pressed opens a small hole in the upper part of the upperjoint while the left key open a small hole on the neck of the instrument.
I'm not sure how to use these keys. I can now play the lower register of the instrument (from low E to A) but the upper register is a mistery for me. I don't know wich key I should press.

    continues..

    Hi Chris
I read your post about your Gear4music bass. I bought one on saturday which had a few really stuffy notes (1st octave C) and some slight intonation issues, so I took it to a technician today to set it up for me. Its on approval right now, but I risked buying it like this in the hope that it might just need a few tweaks by someone suitably qualified. Unfortunately, I'm told that the amount of play in the rods/barrels is excessive and was advised to send it back. It sounds great down low and fine up top and the intonation issues might be partly a result of me using my Otto Link tone edge 6* bari mouthpiece. Is there anything else I should try before sending it back? I don't have £5k + to buy a fancier horn!
I'd appreciate your view on this one. Cheers, Martin

Hi Chris, did you get my message about the oboes? Hope you can help me with your valuations on those, and I will go by what you say.
    Thanks
