Phil! Whew... Thanks for sharing in the Sugal thread. I am worn out with explaining anything more to A'. I can only hope there remains enough in that thread that someone else can benefit from.

How're things in France? It's been raining here for much of the last week, and all I want to do is have a sufficiently long dry spell to have a dry tennis court to play on with my son.

    Be well,

    George

Hi, I've been searching the web for a competent tech here in Portland. I ran across a thread where you recommended a Miguel Maldonado in SE, but I haven't been able to track him down. Was wondering if I could trouble you for his contact info? (Or any others on your list) I've got a '51 Martin Comm III tenor which I really dig, but I want to make sure its playing up to its full potential. Thanks!

    Hey Phil,
I have a Selmer S90 that simply needs repair, not a full reface.

The issue with the piece is that I was trying to work on it (stupid, but I tried it on a blank and did a good job >.<) and I ended up lowering the rollover baffle too much and messing up the tip rail a little bit (a little sandpaper rub off on it and it needs just to be redefined). The rails, table, window, and chamber are perfectly fine. I bought this piece hand picked from a local store so everything was perfect until I made the small changes I did. I don't this would classify as a full reface so I'm contacting all the gifted refacers I can think of to see who can offer me the best deal. I don't think this job would even take an hour, if even 30 minutes because nothing needs to be measured or anything. What would be the price quote for you?

    PS: your PM's are full

    Cheers,
    mike

Just saw your post in the "shouldn't have played that Selmer" thread that nothing else compares to a Mark VI. Did you hear any of Milomo's (Mike Karn's) recent show broadcast live via Webcam from Small's in NYC? Well, he was on a mid-50s Super 20 (non-SS), and I highly doubt that you or whaler or anyone who declares a Mark VI the living end would have sounded better. In fact, Mike's horn sounded deeper, richer and more vibrant than most Mark VI's I've heard live, many of which had a nasally sound IMO. But I think the late models are the main culprits, and admit that early ones can be deep and full-sounding (e.g. Cliff Jordan on his late 50s Blue Note records). But even these 5-digits don't sound any better to me than a great S20. Listen to the duets with Griffin and Lockjaw from the early 60s. I have always thought Johnny (on a S20) sounded starkly better than Jaws' (on a 5-digit) on all; but then again, Johnny's in my Top 5 for best tone and would have sounded great on anything.
