Tankhead, if you know ONE scale (the scale of G, duhh), you should be able to figure out most of his playing.

! I am not joking, a student of mine is also a fan and I showed him how to do it. Really, his music is not that hard and in fact very well suited for players in their first 6 months to play along with...

Tankhead - the publisher Hal Leonard has a book titled "The Best of Kenny G" which includes combo arrangements and transcriptions of his solos to his most popular songs.

If you can study his solos from the recordings, work your chops up to playing the transcriptions, and play along with the recordings exactly like he can, that will be a good step in developing your ear and technique. Don't worry about the anti Kenny G comments (I make them too and the G-ster is a lightning rod for controversy here), there's a lot for you to learn from doing what I just mentioned. Maybe the next step would be to broaden who you listen to and try to play like (if you aren't already).

Tankhead, Gary is totally right and probably the most grown up of us - well, today anyway

My student had these transcriptions as well: a bit expensive, and, if you don't read so well yet, maybe a bit intimidating. In combination with listening to the records they will be a big help - although, as I've said, you should be able to figure out most of it by yourself in a little while. Enjoy!

I suspect the transcriptions were deliberately made overly accurate to impress the uninitiated

. Really, if you try figuring out his songs by ear they are not that hard at all. Try it, you'll be surprised!

Poor Kenny- is his playing really as bad as his hair?

There was a book I worked through with one student, i think it was ' The best of Kenny G' ( no it wasn't blank). It came with an accompanying CD, although the tunes were short and didnt allow for improvising.

The hal Leonard book fast track for e flat sax has silhouette with a play along. It will help your playing alot.It really help my breath control and alto tone.

That's not enough. You must go to New Guinea and play Kenny G music for the Pygmies. It should be easy if you have a straight soprano, their ears are already down there.
