Transcribing Help????
Maybe this is better in "Beginners" section, but I am trying to transcribe a piece written for my Eb baritone sax to be played by my nephew on his French horn in F.
Do I have to write each note down a whole step? That is, is the first three notes in my piece for Eb bari are, say, C, E and G, do I write his notes as Bb, D and F?
And if the piece written for bari is in the key of, say, G, do I have to write the French horn piece in the key of F?
Thanks.

ya, its one step down, and yup G would be F,
youve got it down pat, now teach your nephew to sight transpose it

Wouldn't this technically be the same thing as, say, playing a tenor sax or trumpet part on guitar or piano? Notewise, not pitchwise...

Don't quite understand your question, Razzy, so I'll give two answers.
If you are looking at trumpet or tenor sax music, the guitar/piano pitches sound one full step below the written sax/trumpet music. I.e. a trumpet/tenor D=concert C.
Conversely, if you're looking at guitar/piano music, to play the same sounding pitches, you would need to play the sax/trumpet written pitches one step up. I.e. a written concert Bb= sax/trumpet C.
