Dukoff D8 Soprano Mouthpiece Help!!
I have a Selmer mouthpiece. It works fine except that it's not comfortable. So i went out and bought a Dukoff D8 and I love the big bright sound I get from it. But when I hit the high octave key while playing it SQUEAKS!! It wont let me hit any high notes just low ones! My Selmer mouthpiece works okay but I get a better sounding tone with the D8. What do I do? What steps or things can I try to make it work?

Yeah the first thing you can do is experiment with different reeds. I also play a Dukoff D8 and use a Rico Royal 2 and also use a Hemke 2. I would suggest trying those. The second thing could also be the mouthpiece itself. Is it a newer mouthpiece? or a vintage Dukoff? Either way, it may need some minor adjusting from a mouthpiece refacer. I more recently had a piece worked on by Brian Powell and I must say the thing is absolutely flawless now. They do excellent work. Good luck!

I had a dukoff d7 on alto and couldn't get it to not squeak after years of trying. I ended up selling it on ebay and getting more than I paid for it :-)

Re: Dukoff D8 Soprano Mouthpiece Help!!
Tip opening is too big to control. Try a Bari 70 or Beechler 7. Both hard rubber. The tip opening big enough. But this is just my opinion. No matter what mouthpiece you try, compare it to these tip openings.

In spite of what the charts say, the D8 probably measures closer to .070". IMO anything above .065" gets difficult to control unless you spend a lot of time on soprano. I have a FAQ answer on my site about squeaks.
