In death, we celebrate the lives and gifts those who have passed made to us. And, although we sorrow, we hope to carry on the greatness and traditions these celebrated people have inspired in us. With this spirit in mind, I've assembled from the "In Memory of" section the names, threads, and when possible photos (click on the artist's name), discography, videos and other information on the musicians we've said goodbye to in 2007.

A few notes before hand. Many of you are like me. We have difficulty reading and/or posting in this section of the forum. Each passing effects us in personal ways. We also don't want to seem insensitive to the feelings of other forum members and the families of whom we're remembering. As such, I will refrain from posting back in this thread unless a correction needs to be made. Please do add any information about the music that has touched you. If I've missed anyone, please post as well.

The people who's passing hit me hardest:

Michael Brecker - although I wasn't a huge fan when I first found out about his passing, I have become much more attached to his music.

Joe Zawinul - One of the best pianists/synth players ever. Enough said.

Max Roach - My favorite drummer.

Boots Randolph - He was the reason I started playing sax. My Uncle had made me a tape of some of his songs, which I still listen to, and just did again this past week.


TJ, did you forget Alice Coltrane? I thought she had died the day before Mike did or something.

Does anyone know who posted the Tim Eyermann video on youtube? Are they a member of SOTW? or better yet, do any of you have any videos of the E man they would be willing to share? I had the privilege of studying privately with him for around 3 or 4 years. I would love to get my hands on any videos of him performing.
