Beginner key related question

Hi,

I've been given a clarinet. I love the instrument and have always been a fan of it in Jazz so it's a real treat to actually have one.

I play trumpet which i think has made it a bit easier to get my embouchure happening. My sound is still very airy but it's getting better.

I'm learning basic tunes from a Jazz standards book and i've noticed that there are two keys that are not used anywhere on the fingering chart i have.

They are the two uppermost keys on the right side of the instrument that are activated (Or not it seems) with the right index finger.

I've looked at some other charts and they are used and some information suggests those keys should not be used by a beginner.

Can someone help me understand this please?
