Very fun, Pete!
Very fun, Pete!
Here's a couple recent videos:
Outta Sight (solo at about 3:45)

Sweet Home (solo at 1:25 or so)

I'm not sure if this qualifies as R&R/R&B, but the title is "Blues in Hoss Flat" and my solo (at 3.40) sure isn't jazz:

A little Rock, a little R&B, a little Jewish, hey its all good. ENJOY! Thats a mid 1980's Orange Box Rico #5 sanded down to between a 3-3.5. Those 1980's Orange box reeds are killin if you know how to adjust them a bit. And my alto, SA 80 II with a FRESH overhaul by the master Peter Bannon of Nyack NY. Regular Prestini pads with nylon resos. SICK overhaul! Man I'm glad I kissed my Mk VI goodbye, this alto is all I need.
"We sax players need to stick together and save the world." Sonny Rollins, 1993 after a show.
Ouch, I think almost every musician has experienced something like what happened at .40 of this video...the dreaded woman approaching the band with the "hands over their ears". There's always one in every crowd who likes to complain..![]()
She was cool. If you walked that close to me playing like a maniac you would do what she did too, but lets focus on the many positive aspects of the video!

LateNite -- I enjoyed it! That'd be a fun band to play in, so many different sounds/ideas to explore.
I also dig that your keyboard player is sporting the mad-old-school-but-still-awesome Yamaha DX7. I've got one of those bad boys in my basement, and dragged it to a few rehearsals recently for my keys player to goof around with. Still a good instrument, despite some real age these days.
Just stumbled on this thread. Here's a band of friends I joined three years ago after a brief 30 year layoff from playing. The rust is still there but it's slowly coming off. Anyway, just another bunch of old guys trying to play R&B. We are playing at one of Greater Boston's best dive bars - The Cantab - but we were relegated to the basement (I think that's dive-bar squared). Anyway, with sincere apologies to James Brown....

I'm a long time reader of SOTW...very few posts. I've been out of the biz for a dozen years and just started getting my chops back into shape. I recorded this live looping video a few days ago. This is my very first attempt at live looping. Thanks for watching

Fun project here! There is an American Bar Association battle of the lawyer bands. We had to post a 5 min video for entry. Here's our submission (with the lyrics written on the youtube page). Dorky lawyer music -- FUN!

Yeah, that was fun. I had a hard time taking my eyes off your vocalist's hips. Some good moves there. Oh, and the sax playing was nice.![]()

Ha, yeah. She and I perform together fairly regularly. Her dancing is somewhat "trademark" for her -- she's developed into a good front-person. Good singer, dancing adds nice stage presence.
She should wear ... uh ... more attractive clothing. A stage outfit.

She's sexy the way she is.
MMT, you're on the Durga 9 there with the baritone reeds, I assume?
My wife, whose ears I trust, said that my sound is much fuller, richer, more powerful and resonant on this set up.
... but really folks... my wife said, " It sounds like a saxophone ".
phil -- yeah, Durga 9 with baritone Rico Orange Box 4's. Same as I've been playing a long time, and I have exactly no desire for anything different..... Except maybe a Durga 10, if I could find one to test drive.
I recently bought a metal Otto Link Early Babbitt tip 11 piece, that actually measures 0.150 (= 12 tip).
Did a small blues recording with backing track on it:
