Default Vito/Yani Soprano -Definitely worth a try.

I have had a love/hate relationship with the Mark VI soprano forever. I buy one - love the sound but hate the palm keys and sharp low C. Sell it - then I miss the speed and lightness and buy another. Back and forth going though 4 Mark VI soprano. I've even added Front F's to two of them. Alas - they we just too expensive to keep and now they seem to be selling (at least listing) for $4K.

I have a modern soprano that seems to work and put the whole matter to rest. Recently I was talking to a local pro and he's playing a Vito/Yani soprano from the 70's. Basically a S-6 Yanagisawa which is a Mark VI copy. Found one on E-bay for $900 including shipping.

Came in today and it really feels like a VI. Maybe a bit lacking in the tone department but the speed, lightness, clearity of the VI is all there at a quarter of the cost. Don't know how long I'm going to keep it BUT since it doesn't cost a ton there's no hurry.

If you're looking for a VI but $4K is out of the picture - try one of these Vito/Yani sopranos. Very cool under-rated soprano is a world of over-the-top expensive sopranos.

Tenor - '61 Mark VI w/Tenney Slant Tone Edge 7
    Altos - '66 Mark VI w/Meyer 6M/Caravan
Soprano - JDS (No Name from Mystery Country) w/Tenney Tone Edge 6
    Clarinet - '68 & '70 Buffet R13 w/B45

I actually chose one over a VI when new. The intonation is better on the Yani, and it was a lot cheaper. I actually like the "palm" key set up.

I was under the impression that the market was down, If I could get $4K for my 238xxx Mark VI, I'd sell it.
    I hardly play it now.

After spending a hour or so with the horn all I can say is - Those *&^$ Palm Keys and no Front F - Pain in the *^%.

All I can say is that the Vito is a wonderful sounding Mark VI copy with all that comes with the Mark VI. I stand by my original assessment - but just like in "Storage Wars" This locker (horn) just isn't for me.

Back on the bay - Reserve it what I paid. If anyone wants it on the side - let me know.

Great deal here. I have owned a 875 Yamaha, curved Yani, vintage Conn and now gig with a Vito. I happen to like the VI style palm keys. Easy to play, nice tone, and since I mainly gig on tenor and alto it works perfectly when I need to whip out the soprano.

Looked nice, but someone "bought it now."
