You could also try posting in a tuba forum...

A tuba is suddenly a hot item in the Southwest. Some sort of music is using it more. In fact hot is the right word. They are being stolen from students left and right.

It's for the metal to recycle and sell. Really.

Actually, in my neck of the woods, they're super-hot because they're used in Banda bands. Banda Los Tierra Blanca practically created a tuba craze overnight when they recorded Mi Gusto Es.

The music isn't my cup of tea, but I gotta hand it to any tuba player who can do this:

And actually, I don't know if the scrap metal is the reason they are being stolen in very specific locations, but I did read a news article about this on a national scale, and the reason given was scrap metal sales.

bari_sax_diva is right. It's the Banda music. It's HUGE right now, and bands with tubas rule the roost. A Banda band can more than double their income if they add a tuba. The bands aren't the ones stealing tubas, though. But the thieves are representing the stolen tubas as belonging to a "friend of a friend," etc., and the Banda bands are buying them.

Sounds like a nice horn- finding what it's worth and getting what it's worth are a bit challenging to reconcile in the tuba world since the beasts are a pain to ship and the buyer base is, as are the instruments themselves, dispersed. Local pickup is surely the easiest but it'll restrict your customer base in a big way.

In any case, there is an active tuba playing community. Sean's Tubenet ( http://forums.chisham.com/ ) is the tuba equivalent of SOTW (with all the same lunatic diversions and launches into the ether, as well as the same useful discussion). I suggest you join and inquire there.

Pop into Tubafest next month here in Fredericton and you'll have all of the tuba players in one place.
