Default Selmer Reference 36 vs. Yanagisawa 9932J

I just came across this Youtube side-by-side comparison. Same tune, same mouthpiece, same reed, same recording equipment, same effects. I think it's a good way to do horn comparisons:

Personally, I much prefer the Ref 36.

The Ref 36 is definitely smoother. Both sound nice, though.

    The Ref 36 rushes less.

I thought the tone was terrible on both, but it wasn't the horns. Sometimes less is more.

Well they guy looks like he's enjoying the Yani more LOL. And he really isn't playing the tune the same way twice either. It's the same song, sure, but he's just a boppin along having a good time on the second horn. Maybe he prefers the first, but he looks he prefers the second.

Which horn sounds "better"? Pff I dunno. Different but both fine. It's more fun to watch him play the second time though.

Maybe just a little bit less... OTOH the mouthpiece managed to find a better position on the Ref... at least just slightly better...
