Thread: What is this?

    Default What is this?

I was recently browsing Ebay and I came across this,

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Martin-Home-...item53eb1f7b75

I would like to know if this is a Martin and if so, I would like some information on it so I can expand my knowledge of saxophones.

The Martin Home model and the Buescher Academy from the 1930s were decontented altos and C Melodies sold for beginners at a lower pricel They usually went from low C up to C#3 giving a bit over 2 octaves. No palm keys, no side keys or fork keys. The left hand pinkie would have only a G# and low C# key. They actually play well but limited fingering is a negative. I have a Buescher alto and they had nickel keys with a gold painted body. These are pretty much collector horns and not worth a lot. I think I paid about $150 for my Buescher alto in good playing condition. Belonged to a NYC school system.

Are you sure it is an alto? It looks like this is a tenor from the neck.
