Default Going to Russia on a 10 day tour , any advice?

Going to Russia in May on a 10 day tour with Rick K and the Allnighters, Dont know what to expect, never gigged out of the country before. Anybody here have any experience over there and can tell me what to expect. Is diet coke or pepsi available, is it affordable ? Is there many English speaking folks over there? What about cell phone or laptop usage?
To say I am excited is an understatement.

I´ve been touring there few times.Last time was 2007.
People are great, they really are listening in concerts and they are very hosbitable.
Local usicians are really great people. Take few extra sax reed packets with you, sax reeds costc much there and they are hard to get,so the local sax players are VERY thankful for them.
    Many English speaking,pepsi&coce available...
Using cell phone costs very much so I´m nor recommending that.
The"electric system" is different so you´ll need some kind of a converter.
You probably can find a internet from hotels...

Best of luck to your tour,Russia IS exiting!

I will have to get the details, but we are flying into Moscow. Our first gig is in Kursk at the " dramatic theater ". Then onto Belgorod, Starry Oskol, Orel, Bryansk, Smolensk, Kaluga then finally Obninsk. A production company over there has booked us for the dates. They will take us on a tour of Moscow the 2nd day we are there then 8 straight days of shows. Only one 90 minute show a day ! They will feed us and provide transportation. And I will definately take some reeds ! Will be a good way to make friends I think.

If you buy a SIM card there it's actually quite cheap (at least compared to Australian prices). I bought a 200 ruble "Beeline" SIM card (roughly 7 USD) and made texts/calls back to Australia, and it lasted me 3-4 days, at which point it's easy enough to recharge.

Sounds great ! Russia is a BIG country 6,592,800 square miles Russia : 3,794,083 square miles USA so be prepared for long hours of travel.
Yea, take some reeds, the guys over there will appreciate this...
Moscow is a huge international city, everything you want will be available there, as in all other major cities...
Unless your a big drinker I recomend you do not try and keep up with your hosts when it comes to vodka drinking though !!

One minor thing to be aware of all over Europe Keep your wallet and passport either in a under shirt document holder or make sure you have a really hard to get into pocket zipper and Velcro or button flap on top. Pickpockets are in another league over there

+1 on montagues comment about trying to keep up. Amazing capacity

Have a great time. I bet it will be wonderful

Well watch out for the local ladies then. There are some wonderfully attractive women over there looking for an interesting and successful mate.

Make sure you have a really sturdy case, with good fasteners. Expect your equipment to be treated indifferently by various Russian customs and other officials. Had a friend that lost a bari at the beginning of a tour when the official basically dumped it on the floor.

We play moslty 50's to 70's Rock and top 40 hits with an emphasis on the show aspect. Their " Drummer is at the wrong gig " video featuring Steve Moore has gone viral with over 15 million hits and has brought the band international exposure. Very entertaining show with some comedy. Steve is the most visually spectacular drummer I have ever seen. He does some amazing things on the drums !
