Default What mpc are you using to play rock /RnB

Just wanted to get an idea of what mpc's people are using if playing in a rock band. My band does tunes like On the Dark Side and some Springsteen stuff.

My initial thought was to go with a high baffle piece like a MBII. Here's an example of that sound, sax starts at 5:42:

Then there is a HR Link 9 sound of Bob Reynolds, starts at 2:58:

I lean towards the Link sound.

I use a very open rollover RPC on my 10M for rock or jazz and an even more open high baffled RPC for rock and jazz on my Silversonic tenor. I used to switch the mouthpiece on my 10M depending upon which type of music I played, but came to realize the rollover was a much better match for that horn than the high baffled. It was the opposite with my Silversonic. I used to think my Silversonic was a better horn for rock than my 10M, but I once recorded myself covering a solo from a Billy Joel tune with each horn and it's respective set-up; the 10M/rollover and the Silversonic/high baffled. Both recordings sounded pretty much the same. Like me.

I use a Sakshama Florida Link on my MVI for everything which includes blowing the Clarence solo on Born to Run.

I use a Beechler Bellite most of the time with a #3 Plasticover. Whee haw! However, I do have a Runyon Quantum that I sometimes pull out and lately, I'm learning to use a Vandoren T75 which I am finding has quite an interesting range of possiblities. I really do like the plasticovers for Rock and R&B. Instant Clarence!

The Vandoren metal is a good choice, I used one for awhile but didn't find it versatile enough.

Metalite mouthpieces and Plasticover reeds on all my horns - SATB. Metalites are great rock pieces and the most inexpensive ones out there.
The Martin "Official Music Man" tenor, Barone black tenor, The Martin baritone, Richards Martin Indiana alto, cheap Chinese soprano, Metalite mouthpieces, Plasticover reeds, Nord Electro 2, bunch of other instruments
Wall Of Blues, youtube video, P-Town All-Stars, get Rich, Cannons (my band in the 60's) and Cannons record

Link STM, .110 customized by Bootman, slight baffle added, plasticover reeds. I switch to plain jane cane for more laid back stuff.

I've used these successfully- a cheap new style Brilhart Levelaire, a reworked 130/2 metal Berg and a .110 SS Ponzol M2. All get the job done nicely.

I use the same mouthpiece for everything, a Drake Son of Slant, medium chamber, 7 tip.

    Me too.
    Tenney Jazzmaster 7* tenor mpc
My wife, whose ears I trust, said that my sound is much fuller, richer, more powerful and resonant on this set up.
... but really folks... my wife said, " It sounds like a saxophone ".

Lately it's been the RPC .115B, can't beat it for loud, beefy and soulful.

Sugal Kw II refaced by B. Powell, vintage Dukoff D8* refaced by a few guys in 2000 and a Brendan Tibbs solid silver studio .105 mpc. Mostly depends on the horn section. I really like to play with the rest of the section and some pieces work better with some reeds for me it really helps.

I find the JJ DV CHI extremely versatile and very suitable for the rock genre

Runyon Quantum Spoiler (without the spoiler) on my Martin MM tenor. The same type piece but with the spoiler on my Mark VII alto.
What I play is more important than what I play.
