It's high time those of us who play classical music on saxophone put our talents on display. There's a very active thread in Misc. Saxophone Discussion where people post clips of themselves - it's one of the busiest areas on this board, other than the buy/sell postings.
I'm starting this thread because I'm personally interested in hearing what other participants in this area sound like.
The only thing that I ask of you is this: if you're going to take part here, be prepared to post. I've got no time for armchair critics.
Here's the first movement of the Albinoni Sonata St. Marc on soprano with piano accompaniment.
By the way, it was in listening to your previous video (and some of the others) that I began thinking about a comparative issue that struck me as interesting. If you (or anyone else) has any thoughts I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say on the thread:
Fantaisie for violin and harp by Saint-Saens. I arranged this for alto saxophone and harp. Definitely something that took more work than anything else I've played thus far!
Thanks!! I don't know if there'd be a market for this particular arrangement, but I'd be happy to show anyone my arrangement! I'm still modifying things here and there and may take some more risks in the future.
Poulenc is bangin', by the way! Talk about crazy altissimo chops
This isn't me playing, but it is a work for saxophone sextet that I wrote. It's a recent performance at Arizona State University (it was also recently performed at the University of North Texas). I am conducting.
Here is our rendition of Dvorak's Serenade for Winds arranged by Doug O'Connor. This is from the same performance as mentioned above!
Also, Mana Quartet released an audio recording from last year to further advertise their workshop taking place at Hot Springs Music Festival. Only a few spots left in the workshop!
I'm finally trying to get some of my stuff online. Just to do a test, I uploaded an old recording from when I was in high school. Newer stuff to follow soon!
Two Entries, for my first time, please Constructional Criticizes is welcome, but please be Gentle its my first time!
1) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14804156/40 Tchaikovsky - Andante 2.mp3
Andante is the name of the piece, Tchaikovsky is the composer.
- Was done on a YAS 82z, with a c* and traditional Vandoren 2 1/2, or 3. Its out of a play along book from hal leaonard. It does have a rough start!
2) Is Serenade by Hayden, it was does on my new Hummingbird Ref 54, and a c* with a 3 traditional Vandoren.
I had a real hard time getting this down and I finally just picked the best of 15 recordings, I did loose the beat a little, ended up rushing a bit at the end. I do feel the tone made up for it a little bit, theres something there I am not happy about, I never have "nailed" it, I might redo it later.
A little something new, the Faure Fantasie for Flute, for soprano and piano. I recorded this on a whim, so it's not perfect, but I am pleased to share it all the same.
One more... the Allegro from Sonata No.2 by J.S.Bach. Live in the first round of the Dinant Concourse this past November in Belgium. Played at pitch, in F# minor. Feedback is always welcomed
Hello all!
Seven new videos of the Zzyzx Quartet are up on YouTube. These are from a performance at Izumi Hall in Osaka Japan this May. Included is the Bach Italian Concerto and the Schmitt Quatuor.

Hello,
Here's a recent performance of a piece by Canadian composer Samuel Andreyev entitled Micrographia
the score is available at babelscores.com
Cheers
Josh
Thought I'd share an old recording of my performance of the Paul Creston Sonata, as I just got asked about this in another forum. This performance was from my college Senior Recital back in 1987, and was about as good as I ever got playing legit saxophone.
Dr. Dan Goble was my very fine teacher at the time, wish I'd have been able to study with him all 4 years. We didn't have an actual saxophonist to teach saxophone during my first two years of college.
This is my performance of the Lunde "Alpine" Sonata for Soprano Saxophone and Piano. This was at FSU while I was a student there back in 2009. Had only been playing soprano for a few months, but I really enjoyed it.
Movement I
Movement II
