well. this is the first recording I'm posting publically, so here goes nothing.
It's me in rehearsal with a pianist on the Glazunov. I have an audition for this solo part with a local orchestra coming up in a week and my teacher couldn't make it to this rehearsal to coach me, so I'm putting it up here. I'm open to any and all advice, noting the following things:
1) I'm aware I messed up the end of the 12/8 at [37]. I'm playing this from memory; the same applies to the occasional mixup between Fs and F#s. It's not COMPLETELY there yet, but luckily the places where I mess up don't always sound bad. I'm also aware there are a few technical issues (for example 43/44); those happen sporadically and I'm trying to iron them out.
2) The G at 55. I can't *always* hit it, and I'd rather play something than draw a blank or overshoot. What I did on this recording (and you'll hear me joke about it at the end) is play the ad lib B C up the octave instead. Is that acceptable as an "I can still do altissimo!" or should I just play the normal B C, or should I shoot for the G? (I'd say there's probably a 50/50 chance of me getting a full, pure G) The panel will not (all) be saxophonists, and will not be judging like a college prof selecting his studio, but they have heard Claude Delangle perform the piece a few years ago so they know what it's supposed to sound like.
3) Re: dynamics: the audition and this rehearsal are in Hosmer Hall at SUNY Potsdam, so I've got a ferocious echo to contend with. The thing I used to record this is the best I have, a tiny little Olympus VN-120. Because of that, it seems like I have no dynamic range, but live, I do, so don't rat on me about that <_< It also had only 45 minutes of recording time, so I had to place it somewhat close to me so I could squeeze three full runs on it. (one minute, 33 seconds left at the end) (This is the third run, the one I feel is the best)
Other than those, it seemed like a decent performance to me but I'm sure there's some things you pros will pick up on that I won't immediately register. If you don't feel like flooding this thread, please PM me your suggestions/comments - I want to do as much work as I have to to win this competition, so be as harsh and descriptive as you need to. Thanks!
