It's high time those of us who play classical music on saxophone put our talents on display. There's a very active thread in Misc. Saxophone Discussion where people post clips of themselves - it's one of the busiest areas on this board, other than the buy/sell postings.
I'm starting this thread because I'm personally interested in hearing what other participants in this area sound like.
The only thing that I ask of you is this: if you're going to take part here, be prepared to post. I've got no time for armchair critics.
Here's the first movement of the Albinoni Sonata St. Marc on soprano with piano accompaniment.
I added me playing the second movement of the Fuzzy Bird Sonata onto my myspace recordings. I also have a section out of the larghetto from the Ibert on there(the high section), an excerpt from paganini's 24th caprice and 2nd movement of Birthday Music by von Koch(i'm playing the top line). Any comments are welcome! Also if you wanna add that's more than welcome too!
Does anyone else hear Stravinsky's, The Rite of Spring, in Debussy's Syrinx? I am mostly talking about the Bassoon opening triplets. I don't know, it could just be me.
tracy285, you have the piece under your fingers, in time with the metronome. now i think you could try freeing up the rhythms, adding some rubato, and making it feel free and lyrical - or capricious
I've put a recording of Ibert's Concertina da Camera on my Myspace

i hear what you mean. although, it would be the other way around, since syrinx predates the rite of spring. stravinsky definitely isn't the only one who admired debussy. you can put me in that list.
and syrinx is the bomb! much better on saxophone than flute....despite the context...

Ah, good call. I should have figured that out quicker. That piece sounds really cool. I would like to get my hands on it. Good call on the "predating" I guess I would call it.
But would it be the other way around? I didn't say "i hear debussy's syrinx in stravinsky's rite of spring." either way it doesn't matter. as long as I'm not the only one!
Steve, That is indeed Cam. He's good. I'm thinking about bringing him down for my recitals here. You are also correct in identifying the A17. If there were a prize you would win. Too bad that quartet didn't get to play together for two years-that would have been good fun.
Drakesaxprof, Thanks for the kind words. It is good to be back in Iowa. Now if I could just figure out how to make reeds from corn stalks
This is Mark Engebretson's "I Want" for Saxophone Quartet performed by the North Carolina Governor's School Saxophone Quartet (All High Schoolers) http://www.goear.com/listen.php?v=33039f4
I finally got some clips from my senior recital posted on YouTube. You can view them from my user page here or search for Ralph Torres. I just uploaded so they may not all show up in the search. They are both jazz and classical. I posted the audio of these same clips about a month ago so some of you may have already heard them. You can also check out my MySpace or Soundclick pages. Thanks for listening and any comments or suggestions are welcome.
other great places to look for new rep are famous players websites,
i know on claude delangle's site there's a ton of little clips of different tunes.
