It sounds good. However, I would say your vibrato varies a bit. At some parts, it's very fast and a bit wide, and at other parts, it is rather slow and narrow until you can barely hear it. You're supposed to have a bit slower vibrato for more lyrical parts, but I think it varies a bit too much. Also, near the beginning, when it says to slight retard. (I don't know the measure, I don't have the score with me) and it goes into that lyrical section, I don't think it's supposed to be that slow. Most people I've heard return to the tempo at the beginning at that part. I'd just say to get your technique evened out, and also to add a bit more expression and variation in dynamics and whatnot. Otherwise, it sounds fine. How long have you been working on it?

Thank you. My vibrato is deffinately something I know I need to work on. I started playing this piece in December '07 and used it for my Govenors School audition in mid January. I made that then put the piece away for awhile. I just recently got it back out and recorded it.

You cut the long notes short for the most part. Also your tempo varies throughout drastically, it slows down a lot on the second page, and slows down a lot in the pretty section of the first page.

I appreciate that you seem to understand what good sound is, but there is still room for improvement in that area.

This may sound cliche, but play it with a metronome. The finger technique is great, but that doesn't matter a damn if you can't play it rhythmically even. Once you can play it completely even with a metronome, then you have the license to push and pull, but until you can play it with a metronome well, the music won't flow very well.

Also... tune that last note.

I hope I am not harsh in my criticism, there is a lot of great moments in your playing. You have a lot of potential to become great. Best of luck on this piece, it may be the piece that ALL High Schoolers play, but it is probably one of the most challenging in my mind (and beautiful).

I haven't played this piece before, so I don't know the specific technicalities of the piece but I have heard it many times. The best word to describe your rendition is 'professional' I thought you captured the nuances very well, your your technique sounded smooth and you were balanced (volume and tone) through all the registers so well done, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks a lot for your criticism, it will really help a lot. I can play this piece with a metronome, I just really let the tempos fly when I recorded this. Could you please explain more where you said I could improve my tone? What can I improve on?

Nice work, congratulations on your graduation and acceptance to Bowling Green!

I have noticed MANY folks posting sound clips here (especially those on Myspace), have considerable dead air, tuning notes, etc. at the beginning of their sound clips. I highly recommend the free audio editing tool "Audacity."

It's a fairly intuitive interface, but quite versatile. Cut the beginning (highlight and delete), and add a "fade in" (to the second of silence right before your entrance) to create a much more polished clip. Great work, hope this helps.

And you just have to learn to be very critical of yourself and be able to listen to a lot of great players who you think sound good. If i were to describe how your sound could improve in words I would say that it needs to be a bit more controlled and needs to sing a little more. Hope this helps, but the best advice I can give you is to listen!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. I don't really like my sound, but a lot of people like it. I just feel that it lacks a lot too.

But people tell me my tone is the best feature of my sax playing.

I really like how you're playing the Caprice en forme de Valse. How long have you been practising it? The technique is really good already.

One thing I like to criticise: The rubato valse on the second page is too fast.. it fells like your "jumping".
I would play it much slower, like Londeix did on the video you posted.
