Perhaps an Italian speaker could clear up this point?
Is "Grassi" pronounced phonetically...ie. as in "grassy knoll" or "Marijuana"(), or is the correct pronunciation Grat-si, where the double S is treated as the letter Z?
My thanks.

a bit like like the " weed"( Grass) sound but rolling the R a little bit more than what one would do in English , so it is Grass(ie) but remember the A sound in Italian is a bit like " Uh" not like AE like in many English words. It is the plural of the word " Grasso" which means " Fat"......
Absolutely not TZ or TS.....the doubles are in Italian invariably a shorter an a bit more powerful and abrupt pronunciation of the consonant by itself
Thou shalt pronounce the grass in a British English manner (but with a short 'a') but thou shalt not smoke it lest it giveth thyself ideas.
(edit: added a 'but' for clarification)

My thanks to you both.
I gave myself the odds of 8 to 5 that milandro would come up with the comprehensive and complete answer....I was not disappointed.
Now, being certain of the pronunciation, my de-lacquered, Paua encrusted Professional 2000 will now be the "Skunk".![]()

Yeah, all my horns are Italian. You got a problem with that?!

That's my fault. I unbanned "arse" from the censored word list because I like to use that mild epithet myself. And, in the US at least, it is not viewed as a particularly offensive word.
I think the reason why A** was eventually put on the list is because in all the years I've been reading this forum, I can't recall the word ever being used innocuously to describe a donkey.![]()

Ok, this is the funniest thread of the week. I knew I subscribed to this area for more than just info on Grassi horns! Cheech and Chong would be proud of us.So, grazie!
My prefs: Grr (lightly rolled r) - ah (as in ganja) - seee (as in, "see here, pass that over my way, will ya?") Grr-ah-see!
Now I'm wondering... what about Ida? Is it eye-dah as in Idaho? or ee-dah as in Edy?
