  1. Re: Zoot Sims' Hard Rubber Brilhart Mouthpiece

She had a really rough life, struggling with serious mental illness and alcoholism and acquiring a reputation for being difficult to work with. Her career in films was pretty much over before she...
  2. Re: Zoot Sims' Hard Rubber Brilhart Mouthpiece

Well, then I'm surprised it plays well for you on the .085 tip, my point being that for me at least, different tip sizes require adjustment of the reed strength.

That's a strange later photo of......
  3. Re: Zoot Sims' Hard Rubber Brilhart Mouthpiece

Did you use the same reed strength on both mouthpieces? A reed that works on an .085 tip is going to sound stuffy on a .105 tip.
  4. Re: Ikema's Playing Has Improved -- Mellower & W/ New Licks

Add to the list of things I didn't even realize I should be deeply grateful for: Ikema is not my neighbor.

    Re: Pay Split for Duo?

I'm not sure if I'm following the math properly, but isn't it possible he was being completely honest with you?? You agreed in advance to $175. He got, let's say, a $50 tip and gave you half,...

    Re: Freight trane (Coltrane)

What do you mean by "full score"? It's a jazz tune, correct, so wouldn't you be looking at a lead sheet?

Re: what to do with old HR mouthpieces

Some of the Lelandais's are slightly collectible and bring a little price premium. Equa-true is a standard-issue King large chamber small tip mouthpiece I think. The Geo Bundy is probably a nice...

Re: what to do with old HR mouthpieces

Among the several you say you got, you only identified the Gale. What are the others? If they are generic large-chambered vintage mouthpieces, after they are refaced they will still be worth less...

Re: Where Do You Try Out Your Mouthpieces?

I've sold a lot of secondhand mouthpieces and haven't noticed that "reality", or at least not consistently so. This may hold true for boutique brands, but for off-the-shelf Babbitt brands a reface...
