  1. Re: Is a crossgrade from Finale to the new Avid Sibelius 7.5 ($179) worth it?

I usually plink out horn parts on my USB-connected digital piano using hyperscribe in real-time.
  2. Is a crossgrade from Finale to the new Avid Sibelius 7.5 ($179) worth it?

I'm wondering if it's worth the investment of money and the new learning curve.

Is Sibelius smoother and less buggy than Finale?

I'd appreciate feedback from folks who have both used finale...

Re: Play testing new horns at the store

Yes and no. Having another player also playtest your original horn back to back with one you're thinking of buying can at least offer confirmation to prospective buyer that new horn is darker or...

Re: Play testing new horns at the store

Your signature suggests you made the move already, but if not, I hope you're going up to L&L Wind Shop in Rockville. They have a sound-attenuated room in which to play, and usually have several...
  6. Re: RE20 mic damaged in relocation. Any reasonably-priced repair options?

I originally bought it used. No case. i used a rectangular box with tuck-in flaps and bubble wrap. The innards were all clanking around due to some blow that must have struck it, or it fell in the...
  7. Re: RE20 mic damaged in relocation. Any reasonably-priced repair options?

So the place on Broad Street in Richmond didn't service them, so I forked over the $225 and just got it back from EV in Nebraska. Going forward, can anyone advise a make and model of well-padded...
  8. Re: Lost the spoiler insert for Jody Jazz ESP 100 (6) mouthpiece. Any ideas on a replacement baffle?

EPILOGUE: I sent the piece to MojoBari, and it came back sounding like it originally did with the JJ spoiler- same beefy bark, as far as I can tell. Thanks Keith!
  9. Re: RE20 mic damaged in relocation. Any reasonably-priced repair options?

Hi folks, thanks for weighing in. It was in an oblong cardboard box wrapped in bubble wrap, but if my roller gear back got dropped, gravity is still gravity.... My understanding is that EV charges...
  10. RE20 mic damaged in relocation. Any reasonably-priced repair options?

    Hi all,

In my relocation from MD to VA, my RE20 now has a large component inside that is rattling. I discovered only recently, so too late for any attempt at restitution. My gear bag seemed...

Re: busking in and around Bethesda, Maryland

I have been paid for years to play 3-4 X per holiday season as part of Les Paul-tone guitar-sax duets at METRO stations on the VA side, where the talent agency was paid by local merchants to organize...
  12. Re: Lost the spoiler insert for Jody Jazz ESP 100 (6) mouthpiece. Any ideas on a replacement baffle?

Hello Keith and thanks for the reply. To be clear, are you saying it's a $30 job if I buy the putty and supplies myself, Or $30 transmitted to you if you make it? If the latter, can I assume I...
  13. Lost the spoiler insert for Jody Jazz ESP 100 (6) mouthpiece. Any ideas on a replacement baffle?

    Hi Folks,

I seem to have lost the spoiler (baffle insert with vibrating thingy) for my Jody Jazz ESP piece when I packed up in a dimly lit club last time. This is a bummer because I paid a ton...
  14. Re: New Cannonball Big Bell Stone Series "Brute" Tenor

Congrats to you! I suggest that if you're not already, that you take lessons from a seasoned player to avoid establishing bad habits. I started off with two lessons from the elementary band...
  15. Re: iPad app for storing and playing backing tracks through sound system

If an Aebersold that I purchased as CD, I would rip it as a WAV file into Reaper (great and cheap) or even a free DAW (digital audio workstation) software and fade them so they were barely audible. ...

Re: Pa System for Events band

I love my QSC K12s. Not cheap but they sound great and are very powerful and EASY. I got mine at proaudiostar.com They're not the most social people, but they seem to have the best prices. The...
  18. Re: Is the Taishan Winds TSBS-680 Baritone Saxophone a good sax to own?

Don't give up altogether. Just realize that baris are the most expensive of the main four saxes of the sax family, and to get a solid one, you and/or your parents will need to save longer.
  19. Re: Cannonball fat necks: What are they like and what are they worth?

I have had two tenor fat necks, and I've flipped them both for $200 each, one on Ebay, the other here on SOTW. Both gave my stone series tenor a bigger sound, but there was IMO something a bit too...
  20. Re: What is a solid, low-cost option for a classical (concert band) tenor sax mouthpiece?

Thanks for the responses folks!! I forward the URL of this thread to my friend for her consideration for purchases.
