Hi there, I have both of them for tenor...
the ROC is a 3* and the Maccaferri comes with it's peculiar ligature and original box...
  2. Re: playing sax after 3 day of ChickenPox (varicella)....

Ok, here's my formula to beat Adult Chicken Pox - (if any of you is unlucky enough to be hit by this lousy virus):

    - lots of Vitamin C...I mean really lots of it - I've taken 5000-7000mg per day...
  3. Re: playing sax after 3 day of ChickenPox (varicella)....

    Good points...
My practice sessions these days are rather subdue (no altissimo, no forte/fortissimos) - most importantly I keep using the same Alto (Tenor needs a bit more power) with the same MP...
  4. Re: playing sax after 3 day of ChickenPox (varicella)....

Respiratory problems ARE associated with Chicken Pox....there's plenty of websites where they mention about lack of breath and bad throat associated with this illness (in fact nearly all sort of...
  5. Re: playing sax after 3 day of ChickenPox (varicella)....

    "...possibility of infecting your sax?"
For a moment I'd actually thought I got this virus from this sax itself as I've just bought it second hand...on second thought, I've learned about incubation...
  6. Re: playing sax after 3 day of ChickenPox (varicella)....

A full week? That's very frustrating indeed as I've just bought a new sax and eager to test it at full blast.
Never mind...a couple of hours of mild exercises for a few more days then I'll go the...
  7. playing sax after 3 day of ChickenPox (varicella)....

    Chickenpox on adults stinks...
Just before I started to get my first blisters I noticed a lack of breath but not that much...I simply stopped my practice session a bit earlier.
    That evening I...

Re: pads for a padless sax

Any idea why these Toptone Vintage are out of production? Apparently they stopped a few years ago (so in the middle of the recession).

Re: pads for a padless sax

I've just ordered one of those TopTone Vintage with titanium keys and neoprene pads...
These were very expensive...I guess they didn't fit the market somehow because on paper appear to be excellent...
  10. Re: Why do we equate perfection with great playing?

I guess some technicians wish this thread was never started in the first place...

Anyhow, there are very strong arguments that imperfections are good for you:
    The introduction of digital sound...

    Re: Sax Harness Recommendations Please

I've tried a few designs and by far the best is the Soft Harness (Neotech) - the weight is distributed on the shoulders rather than the back of the neck. I have some doubts about the plastic hook -...

Re: Can this mouthpiece be repaired?

Thanks a lot for the very useful information....
Never thought a split mouthpiece could be made playable with just super glue?
I still don't get the final point about the refacing...I suppose, that...

Re: Can this mouthpiece be repaired?

If superglue is an option then it is worth having a go - at least there is a quick and easy way to stop that crack.
A crack so close to the tip doesn't feel right though - I guess the superglue or...

    Can this mouthpiece be repaired?

I don't have it with me but it plays ok (apparently).
Would you bother trying to reinforce/repair this line crack?

    Re: Yamaha WX on Windows

Programming a synth or plugins (VST, DX or whatever) and the basics of Subtractive Synthesis and Sampling aren't a problem for me...the real issue is that MIDI il loosing it's "weight" and many soft...

    Re: Yamaha WX on Windows

Lots of useful info - thanks.
I didn't know about that trigger on the WX5....also it doesn't need any extra MIDI/Power box...and the WX7 (unlike the WX11) works great with the Korg Trinity Plus...

    Re: Yamaha WX on Windows

I've been bombarded about these VL-70m's since I started searching for a "sax substitute" a donkey (the WX11) to do some boring technical exercises and ear training at night when I can't use the real...

Re: using too many mouthpieces....not a good idea.

Well said Hak...(you aren't such a GOM sometimes).
It really is a commitment to stick with one (and only one) MP for the rest of your life?! Are you joking?

Re: using too many mouthpieces....not a good idea.

"after a while they all start sounding the same"? I don't think so....I would rather say: after a while they all become easier to play and the player wouldn't notice any troubles when switching from...
